Description
Whether you've never thrown on the wheel before or just fancy challenging yourself to produce something new, in this two-hour creative workshop you will successfully learn how to throw a ramen bowl with our head potter, Mathew Dimbleby. You will begin by learning how to centre the clay on the wheel and how to produce cylinders of even forms and thickness. This will then progress onto learning how to develop these forms into a bowl, perfect for eating ramen out of! Once you have achieved the correct shape and are happy with what you have produced, it will be time to get the paint brushes out to decorate your bowl with underglaze colour whilst the clay is still wet, your final step in getting creative. Post lesson your bowl will be dried out in our studio before going through a double firing process. The first firing process is the biscuit firing to 1000oc before being glazed with a food safe, lead-free glaze and fired again to 1120oc. Your bowl will be ready to collect in approximately 2-3 weeks after your lesson. No prior experience is required and Mathew can teach you all the skills required to produce fantastic forms that you will be proud of, but most of all, the course is about having a fun and learning at your own pace. There is a maximum of five places available to book for this course per workshop, giving the opportunity for focused tuition. If you require accommodation, there is a Premier Inn and Travelodge, both within walking distance to our studio. Alternatively, there is the The Upper House in Barlaston, which is a 4 star hotel situated in the beautiful countryside and only a 5 minute drive away.
