Introduction to throwing on the potter's wheel
Description
This half day course is for those with ambitions towards mastering this craft, it will give you all the information you need to get started with throwing on the potter's wheel. The session begins with some background information on the material you will be using-Clay. You will be shown how to reconstitute previously used clay, how to prepare and wedge your clay and the types of clay to use on the wheel. You will be given a step by step demonstration before being guided through making your own pots. After practice throwing pots you will be shown the turning process and then you will have the opportunity to have a go at turning a pre prepared pot yourself.

Maker
Geraldine Francis is a ceramacist who runs tutored classes at Parnella House an 18th Century House, run by White Horse Arts in the historic market town of Devizes. She has many years of experience in teaching ceramics and works from the studio as well as in the community, bringing the opportunity to work in clay to many people. From those in care homes to children's nurseries, Geraldine delivers ceramics and pottery sessions to suit all ages and abilities. She offers tuition in all aspects of working in clay including sculpture and throwing on the wheel. Geraldine is from a fine art ceramics background and her own work is on display in the studio and includes thrown work as well as sculpture and tiles. If the studio venue is not suitable to your needs as you are a large group or have members of your group who require access for wheelchairs etc, Geraldine is happy to arrange an alternative venue.

Yes you are welcome to book for the session. The studio has 4 wheels so if you have a larger group 4 people can be throwing at a time and other members can be engaged in another activity such as decorating pre thrown pot.
