Description

Our beginners day course is aimed at developing the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel, running from 10am-4pm with a break for lunch. What is covered: For those who have never thrown on the wheel before or need to learn the basics, this session will cover clay preparation, centring the clay and understanding and developing basic forms. At the end of the day you will have learnt how to make two different shapes of bowl and contemporary jugs. Choosing your three favourites which you will then be able to decorate with underglaze colour. These pots will then go through our double firing process before they are ready to take home. Any additional pots you would like firing are charged at £5 each. Post lesson your pots will be dried out in our studio before going through a double firing process. The first firing process is the biscuit firing to 1000oc before being glazed with a food safe, lead-free glaze and fired again to 1120oc. Your bowl will be ready to collect in approximately 2-3 weeks after your lesson. No prior experience is required and Mathew can teach you all the skills required to produce fantastic forms that you will be proud of, but most of all, the course is about having fun and learning at your own pace. There is a maximum of five places available to book for this course per workshop, giving the opportunity for focused tuition. If you require accommodation, there is a Premier Inn and Travelodge, both within walking distance to our studio. Alternatively, there is the The Upper House in Barlaston, which is a 4 star hotel situated in the beautiful countryside and only a 5 minute drive away.
