Janet reviewed: Reduction lino printing workshop

"My sister and I spent a very happy day under Penny’s excellent tutelage in her workshop learning about reduction lino printing and making a number of prints. Neither of us had done anything like this before but we got stuck in to tracing and cutting before we knew it. We really enjoyed making the prints; Penny’s easy manner; and her yummy cakes. We would recommend this course to beginners and those who have done it before. I do hope Penny will offer further days like this so we can do some more!"

Denise reviewed: Upholstery course in central Cambridge

"I have attended the Thursday, day time, course and am thoroughly enjoying it. I am a beginner, but our teacher is an expert upholsterer with a huge knowledge of upholstery techniques and is very patient. The small class size means you get plenty of time with the teacher to develop your project. It's a nice atmosphere to work in with like minded people and the free parking (for central Cambridge) is a bonus!!"

Fiona Jeffers reviewed: Modern Upholstered Footstool Workshop - no experience required - the perfect gift!

"What a brilliant day course and Lucy is a fabulous teacher! I was excited but a little apprehensive before I started as I didn’t know how good I’d be but with Lucy’s expert tutoring, humour and patience I managed to make a stool which I can say I was very proud of indeed. All of my friends and family were impressed to. Following the course I felt very inspired to undertake new upholstery projects, I keep looking at all my furniture at home in a different way now, even my husband might get upholstered if he’s not careful!! 🤣 The lunch to was delicious! Thank you Lucy, I’d definitely recommend this course. "

Roundedby responded:

"Haha! You've caught the bug - you'll find yourself coming out of the cinema talking about the fact that the pleats on the dining chairs in the final scene weren't the same height!! You did so well, it was a total pleasure to have you on the course, such a lovely bunch, it was a great day, and your footstool was a triumph! Best - Lucy"

Karen Jones reviewed: 1 Day Bring Your Own Upholstery Project

"Had a fabulous Sunday afternoon with Lucy, who is amazing. Prior to the workshop, she answered all my emails and concerns so that on the day things ran smooth. She also sent me lots of information regarding suppliers for my item. She is very knowledgeable and attentive as well as such fun. Would highly recommend this workshop which is also exceptional value. I was so happy to take home a stool which is now happily sitting in my snug. Lucy also, stayed on after the workshop to finish my stool as I had made an error"

Roundedby responded:

"Ah thanks Karen! It was so great to have you in the Studio, you all worked SO hard, there is so much to learn, new tools, thinking in 3D, measuring twice and cutting once ... I'm not saying anything there .... ;-) It was a really good day, and you did brilliantly - do remember to cover your hammer head with cloth when you put the decorative nails in! Thanks again, Lucy "

"A really enjoyable course. Fehmi was generous in sharing his knowledge and skill; allowing us to explore our own ideas while guiding us in using the different methods involved in mosaics. A fantastic array of materials to work with in a very relaxed setting. Fehmi was kind and patient with our family group of mixed abilities. Highly recommend it to everyone regardless of their experience or ability. This week is our last. We will miss our sessions and look forward to taking home our creations. "

Pam Du Val reviewed: Oriental Brush Painting For 2 - Bring A Friend

"I enjoyed the session with Genny so much. A very supportive teacher, she clearly puts a lot of thought into a relaxed creative atmosphere. She taught us about the rich history of Chinese brush painting, without making it intimidating - it was the perfect introduction to help beginners to paint. The tea ceremony was lovely and I came away refreshed and inspired. Also, I have a disability and really appreciated how Genny sensitively took that into account, to make the session accessible for me. "

Arty Genny responded:

"Hello Pam and thank you so much for writing this lovely review. It was such a pleasure sharing the painting techniques with you and I really enjoyed your company. Take care, Genny xx"

Anthony Jones reviewed: Hardwood table furniture-making course with Finbarr Lucas

"Finbarr's table making course was a delightful balance of learning and hands-on practice, with steady progress over three days resulting in a lovely oak table I made myself. The course was well designed to provide everything the small class needed, from tools and materials to guidance and insights from an experienced craftsman. We gained hands-on experience of saws and chisels, machines and finishes. Beyond this, we also came to better appreciate the deliberate planning and thinking involved in creating furniture, including grain direction, choice and design of joints, and how to correct (or hide!) mistakes. Finbarr was always available to provide up-close guidance on how to hold a chisel, where a mortice needed further work, how much glue to apply, which small errors didn't matter, where to clamp, and so on - the small class size really helped to ensure everyone had support as and where needed. I wholeheartedly recommend Finbarr's course, the experience certainly surpassed my expectations, and after years of dithering I am finally back in my own workshop with enthusiasm and confidence. Thank you Finbarr!"

Finbarr Lucas responded:

"Anthony, that’s a wonderful, positive review. Thank you so much! You’ve been really comprehensive in your description of what the course includes, with a lot of useful detail that I’m sure will help visitors to my listing get a really good idea of what the course involves if they sign up. It was a pleasure to have you and the others in the workshop last month, and you all made wonderful tables. I’m really glad to be part of your woodworking experience, and doubly delighted that you are coming along to the sharpening course in a few weeks time as well. Looking forward to seeing you then. Thanks again Anthony."
