A wonderful gift for anyone with an interest in learning traditional woodworking techniques from a master craftsman, over three days you will create a stunning hardwood table to take home and treasure forever. This engaging and hands-on course is suitable for students of all abilities, and no previous experience is required. You will use a variety of tools and learn techniques to create a beautiful side table to take home. Your qualified and experienced teacher, Finbarr Lucas, will share with you the knowledge he has gained from 25 years of furniture-making to help you achieve fantastic results in just three days. The course takes students through the process of creating a beautiful side table from hardwood timber. You will use a combination of hand tools and machinery, and learn the best way to measure, mark and cut the joints for this piece of furniture. All materials and tools are provided, and each student will have bench space with a vice. Working at your own pace, and with as little or as much help as you need, you will be guided through the woodworking process in Finbarr’s wonderful green-roofed workshop. At the end of the three-day course you will have transformed oak timber pieces into a beautifully sanded and finished oak side-table that you will treasure forever.

He has made work for the RHS at Chatsworth, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and Sheffield Botanical Gardens. He has also created numerous hardwood pieces for private and commercial customers, and he was the Workshop Expert on BBC’s Jay’s Yorkshire Workshop.

Yes, there are several buses that stop nearby, and the main Sheffield train station is less than 2 miles away.

The workshop building itself is on the far side of a small courtyard. The workshop is on the ground floor of this building, with no step to get into the space. Toilets are through another door only 4m away.

Yes, I always schedule at least one course to start on a Saturday, and this course runs Saturday, Sunday and finishes on the following Saturday. This means that people who aren't available to attend on a Friday can still take the course.
In the listings, look for a course marked to start on a Saturday. This will be the course that is weekend days only.
