12 week course, one 3hour class/week Course breakdown: Week 1. Making a ring. Introduction to working with silver: Measuring, sawing and soldering. We will cover these skills and more, while making the rings. (Materials required: D-Section wire: choose the width you would like your ring to be..there are several widths available from cooksongold.com, here are some links to help you get started. See below* (materials: 80mm x 3mmx 2mm d section approximately £5.15 from cooksongold it does not inc. postage) Week 2: Making a ring Cont. I am hoping to practice ring making on several different sizes/thicknesses of metal. Ie skinny rings, wide chunky rings with different metal profiles (materials: Silver sheet 1.2mm x 5mm x 85mm/ or 1.2 mm x 10mm x 85mm (for a wider chunkier ring) approximately £5.78 from cooksongold it does not inc. postage) Week 3: Bezels: We will be learning how to make Bezels for stones, (cabochons). Bezel strip the width of strip will depend on the stone you wish to work with.** If you are going to purchase your own stone please make sure it has a flat back and is round or oval. A cabochon has a rounded usually smooth top. Materials: stones from me £1/each. Bezel strip cost will depend on size of stone, but will be in the range: £2-6.00 so total no more than £7. Week 4: Bezels cont. Inc. Setting the stone in the bezel. I would hope each student could get two bezels completed, so again no more than £14 but more likely to be £7, depending on how many the student wants /can make. Week 5: Reticulated Silver: This is method of adding texture to silver. (materials: Sterling silver sheet: 1.2mm x( 50-100mm) x 50 -100mm, depending on how much you want to spend). 25mm x 25mm x 1.2mm = £8.52/ 50x50x1.2= £34. Week 6: Pendant: We will make a simple pendant designed by you. (materials: Silver sheet: 1.2mm x 40mmx 40mm =£22, or you could make it smaller 20x20=£5.45. Silver wire 1.2mm x 100mm =£1.35 Week 7: Making a Bail. This is the (fancy) part that attaches the pendant to the chain. (materials: Silver sheet 1.2 x 10mm x 40mm £5.45. Week 8: Making Chain. I will demonstrate and we will have a go at this skill. (Materials required: 1.2mm round Silver Wire 1000mm). We may only have time to make a small section as this is a lengthy process...but more can be made at home on your own. £13.76 Weeks9 -12: Individual Project: Your own project designed and made by you, with my help/guidance along with the skills acquired above. During the final 4 weeks of the course you will have the opportunity to indulge your creativity by designing and making your own unique piece and/or pieces of jewellery. Maybe there’s something you’ve always wanted to find or make, let’s see if we can make it together. Materials: will vary depending on what you want to make. Materials: I have listed the materials that will be needed for each lesson, next to the lesson. You can either order the materials yourself (cooksongold is the one I recommend) or contact me and I can do a group booking, which will save on postage. I will then give you your materials on the first day of the course. As the price of silver varies daily I can only give you an estimate here. If you choose to get me to order your materials I will not be able to provide a receipt. Sorry. I've been making Jewellery since childhood, but the hobby was re-ignited in 2006 (when i was 33) after losing my dad. The process really helped me handle and learn to live with my grief. Since then i've been to full time Jewellery School and been making Silver jewellery and adding to my technical reportoire ever since. In addition to jewellery I taught English as a second Language for three years in South Korea, i've run a few classes in the UK and abroad but I really want to start offering regular workshops and day classes.
