Seaglass jewellery workshop at Sea & Solder, Dorset.

Description

Make your very own seaglass ring or pendant in 925 sterling silver with Jules from Sea & Solder in her Corfe Mullen workshop. A one day taster course where you will be taught basic silver smithing skills in sawing, filing, forming, soldering and finishing or come along to build on the skills you already have and make use of the workshop space and teaching environment to make your very own bezel set seaglass ring or pendant. Suitable for complete beginners as well as those with previous experience. Please note that courses are either a ring or a pendant workshop. A short break for lunch in Corfe Mullen, Dorset. We run small classes of up to 4 students. Bring along your own seaglass (Jules will check and let you know if its suitable to use) or choose a piece from Sea & Solders collection. You can choose a course to make your own seaglass ring or pendant in 925 sterling silver. There is also the option to make a silver bangle or cuff too on a ring workshop (with an additional charge of £20, please choose a ring workshop to make a bangle/cuff). Unfortunately due to the time involved in making a piece of seaglass jewellery, you will only have time to make a piece of jewellery with one piece of seaglass (see photos for examples). Making earrings, larger pieces or cuff links is difficult in the time frame for beginners. Please have a look at the photographs for examples of what previous students have made and what can be achieved on the full day workshops. A fun relaxed day, you will be greeted with a hot drink on arrival. The workshop has a small area for making as much tea and coffee as you can drink throughout the day and biscuits will be available. (Please note lunch is not provided) Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult who is also booked onto the course. I will continue to add further dates for 2024 courses up to three months in advance so please keep looking if non of the current dates suit you. Once you have booked onto a course, access information and the full address will be sent to you in a confirmation email. Please wear closed toe shoes and bring glasses if you need them. Please note that this course will only run with a minimum of two students (max four), if there are two or less students booked onto a course the course will be cancelled and an alternative date will be offered instead.

What's included in the price?

~ The price of the course includes tuition for the day, one piece of sea glass/stone/pottery to use in your jewellery, enough silver to make a silver seaglass setting for a pendant, and an 18 inch silver chain or silver ring and setting for a sea glass ring. ~ Use of the workshop and tools. (Seaglass size between 0.5cm and 3cm wide/long, and no more than 5mm thick, and ring band between 1.5mm and 4mm, see photos for examples. A bangle/cuff can be made with 2mm silver wire, this has an extra charge of £20.) Due to the time available on the day, your ring/pendant needs to be within this size limit and design as seen in the images, this ensures you will take away a complete and well finished piece of jewellery. In addition to this we also have a treasure box cabochons (semi precious flat backed stones) and silver chains which can be purchased on the day. Lunch is not included.

Jules started her journey into jewellery making on a three day course and was instantly hooked, she has since attended a number of further courses, practiced in her home studio, worked on a large variety of commissions in both silver & gold, supplied shops and run workshops. Jules is a qualified teacher with over 10 years experience, this combined with her silversmithing skills, kind nature and patience has enabled her to set up a successful workshop for students to learn in.
