Jim Commins reviewed: Woodcarving for beginners - two day course in Suffolk

"I would wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone who is embarking on the woodcarving journey. Today I finished the excellent 2 day beginner course with Gerry. Having no experience of woodcarving (or anything arts & crafts) I had a bit of trepidation on how the course would go but I worried needlessly. Gerry's relaxed approachable style, coupled with the group consisting of very friendly like minded people from a variety of backgrounds, made the 2 days a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Gerry steered everyone along the course at a pace to suit everyones ability, and at the end of the 2 days we all had one finished piece plus a second piece well on the way to completion. Gerry provided individul step-by-step tuition to everyone and was always there to guide me back on the right path when I felt myself going astray. We discussed tools, sharpening, woods, etc....I came away with a solid sense of direction on what was the best next steps for me. Gerry's knowledge and skills are clearly vast and we were obviously only scratching the surface of his talents. All in all I am delighted I attended and recommend to anyone."

Iason reviewed: Nordic wood craft

"My girlfriend and I had a private workshop to make our own cup. Tom was very helpful, knowledgable and overall a really nice person! He knows his skills and is very good at explaining them. We especially liked the fact that he explained and demonstrated but also left enough space for us to try things for ourselves. In the end, it really is about doing and learning this by yourself but without Tom's insights you wouldn't know where to start :) The location is also really nice and Tom provides hot beverages and a shelter for those cold and/or rainy days. Would definitely recommend!"

Wooden Tom responded:

"Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure getting to know you both also."

"I have done three courses with Gigha, a 2 day garden panels workshop, a one day bunting & a one day lead panels workshop. I can't get enough! Highly recommended. Gigha's workshops are informative and good fun. You leave with new skills and your creation/s have had a day where everything else in your life is temporarily forgotten while you are engrossed in putting your new skills into action."

Nick Sterling reviewed: Blacksmithing Beginners day courses in Yorkshire and the North East

"I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you, Adrian and Andy for what has been an outstanding experience today! I’m knackered and my forearms hurt so much along with my back but it was all worth it to bring home the 2 masterpieces that I made of a dragon hanger set and the keyring. From the first contact with you on email through to meeting you today and then the patience and support of the lads, it all went to make it a truly memorable day for me. Your cooking is a loss to Darton but a gain to my waistline! Thank you again, you’re a superb team and long may you be successful."

Lisa Hayward reviewed: Glass etching workshop in Devon

"I would just like to say a huge thank you for a most amazing afternoon. A warm welcome helped to ease my nerves and with friendly expert advice I have created glass work which I am so very proud of. I am no artist but with your help, support and patience I have created Christmas gifts which are stunning. I definitely have the glass etching bug and will continue to explore and develop my skills and abilities. The other students were friendly, the cake was delicious and on leaving I felt relaxed and fulfilled. Its very hard as a working mum to make time for yourself but I am so pleased I took this opportunity and will recommend it to all my friends and family. Thank you so much Jenny"

Andy ward reviewed: Firebird Forge Blacksmithing School

"I had an absolutrly fantastic day with Mort. Only one other person on the course with me, which mewnt we both recieved fantastic 1-2-1 mentoring throughout the day! Mort is a wealth of knowledge, both of the art of blacksmithing and history in general that meant that day was entertaining, fun and educational! At the end of the day you get to leave with not only the knowledge and appreciation of how hard blacksmithing is, but you WILL leave with at least one thing that you haveade WITH YOUR OWN HANDS, which is a fantastic feeling!!! Couldnt recommend it highly enough"

Lucy Robison reviewed: Lampshade making workshop Edinburgh Scotland

"A very entertaining and fun way to learn a skill I didn't even know I could- under Ginny's expert (and very patient!) tuition I made my own lampshade and feel inspired to have a go flying solo at home with one of the kits I purchased! Great chat, lovely people in a comfy informal setting with all the cake I could eat to keep the energy levels up. Highly recommend this and the best part is I now have the perfect shade for my living room and ideas for future projects."

Little Lamptastic responded:

"Thank you Lucy! Fab morning!!"

Neil reviewed: Full day leather craft workshop

"I highly recommend this course and Rosanna is a delight to work with. I learned new techniques to add to my self-taught dabbles which was perfect for me. Rosanna takes you through basics and you end up being able to produce really nice items. I was the only participant on the day so I had one-to-one tuition and the time just seemed to fly by! Excellent."

Ian Taylor reviewed: Woodturning courses in Norfolk

"A truly excellent course. I am disabled and Nick was completely adaptable in order for me to be successful. The best thing was he listened to my needs and was able to work round them move things as needed. I was determined to have a good time and so was Nick. I learnt so much during the day and was able to try things out to make sure turning was the craft for me which I have found out it is. Thank you Nick and Jane the lunch was lovely."

Ross Friend reviewed: Learn to carve wooden spoons, beginners and improvers

"Covered a huge amount on the course but the pace never seemed too fast or to slow. Quite an achievement given we had a mix of students some of which had no woodworking experience at all and others who been professional cabinet makers! Left me feeling confident I could (on my own) start on some spoon carving projects with a good chance of producing an acceptable product success without losing any fingers ?"

"An amazing day learning the basics from an artisan craftsman. Nigel is a phenomenon. A true master and gent. He made everyone feel at home at the forge. Showing us the processes to make a piece step by step then allowing us time to follow suit. Always on hand for some guidance and a good yarn. Had a fantastic time and can't wait to return to make our wedding bands."
