Metal embossed Japanese stab bound book craft workshop

X

Description

In this workshop I’ll take you through the methods of creating a metal embossed image and hand binding a sketchbook using the Japanese stab binding technique. We will then combine the two together to create your own unique sketchbook. No experience of metal embossing or book binding is necessary, as I will take you through all the methods to make your sketchbook. I have designs that you can use, or you can bring along your own. We’ll go through all the steps from transferring your design to the aluminium plate, learning the techniques of metal embossing, and finally how to finish your decoration in order for it to be ready to attach to the sketchbook. I will also show you how to cover and and bind the sketchbook. The sketchbook will be filled with watercolour paper and is A5 (approx 15cm x 21cm) in size. You will leave the workshop with a unique sketchbook, that you can use either to draw or paint in, or as a memory book. The workshop takes place at my home workshop just outside Stanley, County Durham. It is a small workshop, so workshop classes are also small, which means you will receive plenty of individual attention. This workshop will need at least two people booked on it to go ahead. Please note that my home workshop is accessed by stairs.

What's included in the price?

All materials to complete the sketchbook are included. A light lunch will be included, as well as hot drinks and cake, biscuits and fruit throughout the day. Please let me know of any dietary requirements when you book.

I’m Carrie, and I’m an artist and art and crafts teacher based in Stanley, north east England. I have been teaching art and crafts since the early 2000s and teach a weekly art and craft workshop in the local area for a social prescribing programme. I also deliver workshops for organisations around County Durham, Northumberland and Cumbria. Through personal experience, I know just how engaging with art and crafts can bring about a wonderful sense of wellbeing and relaxation. I absolutely love passing on my knowledge and the benefits of art and craft for wellbeing. I particularly enjoy teaching absolute beginners, so rest assured, whatever your art and craft experience, I will guide you through the process and make it as enjoyable as I can for you! I love to share my knowledge and tips and techniques, so I hope you'll find the classes fun and informative.
