Firebird Forge Blacksmithing School
Description
Traditional Blacksmithing one day tuition run by an award winning blacksmith with over 23 years hand forging experience. Students choose their own project to work on (within reason). This includes blades and axe heads. Firebird forge is located in the heart of one of the oldest private estates in the south east and to the back of the forge is the woods where the stories of AA.Milne were set (The Hundred Acre Wood). The forge is in a 1500 square foot former dairy and has 6 individual forging stations with anvils and hand tools, along with a steel worker, a Sahinler Sm40 Powerhammer and a Hercules 120kg Powerhammer for larger work. Both experienced students and complete novices are welcome and tuition can be arranged in such specialisms as Composite Pattern Welding (Damasus steel) and Repousse work if required (at extra cost). Mort the Blacksmith was formerly a doctoral Archaeologist with various University degrees and specialises in the authentic forging of historical iron and steel decorative work, toolmaking and blade forging. He has worked for numerous heritage bodies such as museums, English Heritage and the National Trust and he has lectured in various blacksmithing colleges around the country.
