Kate reviewed: 2 Day Silver Jewellery Making Course - Ely

"Brilliant. Jonathan provides a relaxed, informal atmosphere which put us all at ease. The teaching materials and discussions created a detailed course with enough info to get you started as a hobbyist or indeed to start up small scale production. The course was well structured and thorough, yet felt like spending a couple of days relaxing and having fun. The food was delicious, and thoughtful touches like homemade biscuits point to the care taken. I enjoyed it so much I'm signing up for the stone setting course...."

Dave Allport reviewed: Green wood stool making weekend

"What can I add to the reviews already submitted. I had a fabulous weekend living and working in the woods on my stool project. George and his lovely family made us most welcome showing genuine interest in our progress over the weekend. With Dave giving us an interesting insight to woodland management. The wholesome food served was most welcome and delicious. The night in the yurt was quite an experience, basic but, being used to the camping life, wasn't a problem. I was however on the course with a female and we both agreed it wasn't a problem for us to share the yurt. George did have a bell tent on standby so all situations were covered if there was an objection. I would really recommend these weekends to get back to nature and meet likeminded people and learn new woodwork skills. I will be looking out for future courses. Thanks for the enjoyable experience."

Fiona reviewed: Photography Days

"Just got back from a thoroughly enjoyable day with Richard and Sue, armed with lots of useful tips on how to get the most out my mid-range camera. They directed the tuition to suit both my own and my friends abilities and gave us lots of useful tips on purchasing equipment. Furthermore they Kindly let me use their camera equipment, including different lenses and filters, which enabled me to see the difference in photos that one can achieve by moving to the next level. Both of them were enthusiastic and listened to what I wanted to learn, in addition to guiding me in the right direction on all aspects of photography. Whatever level your at, I would certainly recommend this course as they definitely tailor the day to suit you and your needs. Great value for money!"

"A brilliant day spent with a great teacher. Mort has a the ability to allow you to work on, but step in at just the right moment. My wife and I had the opportunity to to make the items we wanted with guidance and advice on the best way to do it. I'd recommend Mort and his courses to any one. You don't need to have any previous skills or knowledge to get the most from the course. If you do have some previous experience the Mort is the man to stretch those skills further."

Emma Green reviewed: One day silver jewellery designing and making workshop

"What a fabulous Silver Jewellery Workshop. I can strongly recommend Bridget's day course. Before the course took place Bridget asked me to think about what I would like to achieve and think about the item/s of Jewellery that I would like to make, which was amazing as it gives you ultimate freedom and creativity - plus plenty of time to make sketches (even though mine were pretty bad). So when I turned up for the day we had a great starting point. Bridget has an amazing knowledge of her craft and is a very welcoming and lovely person. I immediately felt at ease and it was super interesting to learn about all of the different processes that go into jewellery making. I initially started using tools and techniques on copper to get to grips with the saw and hammers and then we worked on my designs to then transpose on to Sterling Silver. I came away with a great understanding and appreciation in the craft and felt that my teacher was a amazing fountain of knowledge. I would love to go again and try to evolve my designs. Thank you Bridget!"

"A really rewarding way to spend a day - not only do you learn the practicalities of the craft but also plenty about the history and culture of blacksmithing. Mort's tuition is very well balanced - letting you get on with your chosen piece for long periods and then stepping in when more assistance is needed."

"Hi Abi and Alison Just to thank you both for such an informative and wonderful course at the weekend. It was just so nice to get away and meet like minded people since being a potter can be a lonely profession. I came away on a high determined to get back in the studio again but of course that will have to wait until after I get back from my holiday and with this weather it can't come soon enough! Good luck with the next course. Sue x"

Jeanie Ciskowski reviewed: Shoemaking Workshop

"I had a wonderful time at the one-day course at Green Shoes. I love my shoes, they are beautiful and comfortable. I will cherish them always and remember the fun day of bonding with a interesting and creative group of people. I was expecting and hoping to receive more information on shoe-making in general, but it was more of an employee-for-a-day experience. I was told what to do and received all the help I needed, but I didn't learn more general information about materials and glues and techniques. There was a lot to do for all of us to get through the work in one day! Also, I expected to leave with my shoes that day, but the final sole and finishing was to be done by the shop, and I had to pick them up on Monday. Luckily I could alter my plans and return on my way back to London before flying back to the US on Tuesday."

Annabel Allen reviewed: Beginners sewing and quilting at Spools and Scissors Suffolk

"I had a fantastic time learning how to make a quilted and lined bag from scratch- it even had padded straps and a proper bottom for it to sit on. We learnt many techniques which will be so useful in terms of building on this experience to make other items. Tracey was very patient and explained things well. It is a small class so absolutely ideal. She also makes delicious cakes and her two dogs are lovely. Book a class today!"

Spools & Scissors responded:

"Thank you so much Annabel for such a lovely review. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you and the bag you made was truly amazing! Thank you for booking with Spools & Scissors"

Steph Smith reviewed: Stone carving 1 day introduction course in East Yorkshire at Micklethwaite Studios

"Had an excellent day with Alan and Tracey creating a carved Celtic knot in stone. As I was travelling quite a distance to the course ( and this was a 60th birthday present!), I needed to be sure that I was going to receive the best tuition possible. If you need to see the quality of Alan's work, read his book (Restoration Stone work by Alan Micklethwaite) it is AMAZING!!! However, just because a Crafts-person can create such wonderful work, doesn't always mean that they can teach the craft too........ thankfully, in this case, the tuition from Alan and Tracey was excellent. The choice of a Celtic Knot was a fantastic introduction to the craft, as it enabled me to practise a number of skills progressively and I was delighted with my first attempts at a new craft. If you are thinking about having a go at stonework, I urge you to try this workshop. It must be good......I'm already thinking about dates for going back......to try sculpture........or perhaps lettering..........!!!!"

Micklethwaite Studios responded:

"Hello Stephanie, Thank you for your lovely review, it was a pleasure to meet and teach you - and you did a great job with your first stone carving!! We will look forward to seeing you again at our Studios when you have another project in mind too..... Best wishes, Alan and Tracey"
