Anne reviewed: A Dry Stone Walling Workshop Bedfordshire

"My husband and I attended the workshop run by John on 10th Aug. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day and gained great insights into techniques used to build dry stone walls. John is a great instructor and very patient with absolute novices. There’s a good balance of checking/making sure you are on track and being left alone to work it out for yourself. Very therapeutic! I would actually like to go back to do a 2nd day to try building different part to the wall e.g. foundations stones. Thanks for a memorable day."

London School of Dry Stone Walling responded:

"Hello Anne - Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased you felt the benefit of 'being left alone' to put one over two or two over one. There is much to learn and you achieved completing a good section of the wall, juggling with the stone and following the line !! The next section is under preparation, more trench digging ready for foundations, to carry on building into where we finished the raking back!! You would be welcome to return, at any time. Take Care, Best Wishes, John"

Guy Seaborn reviewed: A Dry Stone Walling Workshop Bedfordshire

"I had a wonderful day! It seemed to pass extremely quickly, which was a testament to John's insights and "the wall." It is essentially a big jigsaw. I learned about basking stones, hearting stones, batter, first lift and second lift and more to boot. It was an inspiring and renewing experience which I would recommend to anybody in these fast days of computer games."

London School of Dry Stone Walling responded:

"Hello Guy - Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased you were inspired by the experience. It was good to see your handling of the stone and how it improved during the day, choosing particular ones to form a 'racking angle', keeping the batter and placing the fillings. Best Wishes, John"

"What an absolute delight spending the day with Annette. Her craft room is a magical wonderland of characters and art that she has created and she has even a storyline behind some of them. I will gladly be recommending her to all and everyone. The dear friend who got me the voucher for my birthday and I are planning to go see her again and to come away inspired and buzzing again. She's a lovely, lovely skilled woman.See you soon Annette and thank you so very much for all you did. X P.S. You also get to have the company of her smashing dogs."

Peter Buckland reviewed: Learn to Turn in the Dartmoor National Park

"One of the most enjoyable and rewarding courses I have done! Chris is very skilled and an excellent teacher. I started as a complete beginner, and with his guidance produced a very nice simple but graceful bowl, learning the most important techniques and skills. Course involves just two students at a time, each with own lathe. We learned a lot from just watching each other. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable and constructive day. I am expecting my own lathe this afternoon, and cannot wait to get on and try some of the techniques out. My strongest endorsement of this course."

Hala Lloyd reviewed: Pottery Tuition ~ Learn how to Throw on the Potter's Wheel, Slab-build and Coil in 1 Full Day's Attentive Teaching

"I ended up at Sonya’s studio, having been let down by a last minute cancellation at a group workshop elsewhere, and I’m so very glad that happened! I had a tremendous day which positively flew by! Sonya is very warm, welcoming and accommodating. The 1-1 set up for the day was structured yet flexible and I was able to try my hand at throwing, which I’d always wanted to do and thoroughly enjoyed even if I didn’t end up with anything resembling a pot! Significantly, I was able to produce a built up wall plaque, which is a very important project to me, and which I’ll be going back to add glaze and lustre to. I’m really looking forward to learning these next stages and have no doubt Sonya will ensure the experience is informative, personal and fun ! What more could I ask for!"

Sonya Ceramic Art responded:

"Dear Hala, I'm so very pleased you enjoyed the 1 day workshop with me. It was a pleasure helping you build your wall plaque from an initial idea into reality. It's not often that a student comes with such a clear idea of what they want to create, and with so much authentic detailing. It was mesmerising to see how your piece evolved over the day and I'm so looking forward to helping you put on the final touches with glaze and lustre. I see another ceramicist in the making! Best Wishes, Sonya."

Dan Fletcher reviewed: Stone carving 1 day introduction course in East Yorkshire at Micklethwaite Studios

"Had a days lettercutting with Alan and Tracey and what a fantastic day in a brilliant setting. Both absolutely lovely people with a vast knowledge of the craft, showing me how best to cut out the letters and marking them onto the stone. I have done a few courses at a few different places but this place is above anywhere I've been before and would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to learn anything about carving stone. Will definitely be back for more tuition."
