Painting with beeswax & dyes - Batik Pictures
Description
Welcome to exploring this ancient art form of designing with hot beeswax - painting with batik dyes the traditional way using tjanting tools. The course is run by Barbara who has many years of experience of designing textiles and is trained in batik in its native country of Indonesia. This fascinating art technique is over 2,000 yrs old, let's keep it alive and have some fun with it! During your workshop, you will create a range of experimental pieces and one unique larger picture. Don't worry if you can not draw, Barbara will help you with this. See information below. By drawing with a special tool called a tjanting and releasing beeswax onto cotton material to leave a lovely white line then painting with colourful batik dyes, you will create a unique picture to hang or frame behind glass. Design: Batik lends itself to many designs, floral, abstract, landscapes, buildings ...the possibilities are endless. But please think of simple and white outlines when you are looking for your chosen design. There are examples, images and designs to share with you but it is always nice to have something to frame that suits your decor :-). Any questions please do ask. You will make A5 samples to get used to the various techniques, then onto your final piece - approx 16''x16'' and embroidery frames as well as a variety of frame shapes for you to choose from. You will also have access to a variety of different tools to draw your design with, so you go home with lots of tips in case you would like to take up the art form afterwards. This is a relaxed class for beginners to explore and experiment, you will be amazed at what you will achieve! Intermediate welcome too :-) *The wax is ironed out to show the lovely white outline before you take your picture home to frame. *If you do not see a date to suit then please message Barbara as she puts dates together for two or more people on request.
