Gerry discovered and fell in love with printmaking after visiting an exhibition of relief prints in 2012. She works solely in linocut enjoying the mindfullness of mark-making and rigorous process of printmaking, most often using the reduction technique to produce multi-layered multi-coloured prints. Her work typically depicts her fondness for British wildlife; birds, flowers, countryside and above all, colour. She is a member of Oxford Art Society. Gerry teaches Linocut workshops at her home studio in South Oxfordshire. She also sells online in the UK and internationally. Her work has featured in local and national magazines. Her linocut print “Clarinet: lines and spaces” was exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2024.

FAQs

Absolutely! In fact its better to work on something personal that you will really enjoy carving and printing. I will send you guidelines as to what type of image will work and examples of images that have worked well at previous workshops.

This workshop covers reduction printing which is an intermediate technique to make a multi coloured print.
It is more suitable for folk who have done some linocut previously, however I have taught beginners who have produced successful results on this workshop - I will take you through every stage.

If you have never done any Linocut before and would like to take things more slowly, you might like to consider booking onto my Introduction to Linocut workshop, which is a step by step introduction to the basics of producing a single colour print.

Bring an apron or wear old clothes.
Bring some pictures to work from (detailed advice will be sent)
Bring glasses if you need them for close work.
Think about how you will transport the prints or cards home. The will be touch dry but would benefit from being kept separate until fully dry.

Yes!
But we don’t want to make direct copies of other artists work, so if you are using an image to trace, it should be thought of as a jumping-off point for your own work.
Bear in mind that the image you intend to use will need to be the correct size for the piece of Lino (more details upon booking)

No, everything is provided. However if you do have your own tools and wish to use them please bring them.
