Blacksmithing and Forging Workshop, making copper wrist bands and steel coat hooks.
Description
Blacksmithing, forging course, based in the beautiful ruins of the restoration project Brougham Hall. We begin the day by cold forging copper wrist bands and pendants from 5mm hard drawn copper wire. This gives the opportunity to learn about the anvil and hammering techniques, drawing out metal, giving texture and shaping metal around the bic of the anvil. We also stamp personalised letters or numbers into your piece. After lunch we have a hot forging session, making a lovely ornate coat hook. We use tongs to handle the steel. Learn about heat and the forge. This gives a chance to draw out and shape the steel and how to use a hot set to cut the steel. Finished with a river twist and a coat of beeswax to give your finished item a lovely shine.
