Description

In this 2.5-day session, up to 4 people will make their own sword from start to finish. You will be given an introduction to safety and the use of the coke forges and tools. Then, you'll learn the basics of fire management and heating, then Matt will demonstrate and guide you on your own forge and anvil step by step into how to forge a blade, cross guard, pommel, make a handle, harden and temper, grind and assemble all the pieces together for you to take home and enjoy your very own longsword! The blades will be made from EN45 spring steel hardened and tempered these make very forgiving excellent sword blades. It is advisable to have some prior experience in metalworking by taking another introductory course before embarking on this course. This course starts on a Wednesday-Friday morning, and ends on Friday at 1 pm, although it is expected the course will likely run over past 1 pm and we will accommodate any last-minute help to ensure you can go home with a fitted sword. We can recommend a choice of nearby accommodation for those seeking an overnight stay, just get in touch.

What's included in the price?

All tools, materials and safety glasses will be provided. Please wear suitable clothing if you don't mind getting dirty or marked. Cotton clothing is ideal like jeans and shirts, please don't wear acrylic or nylon clothing. Refreshments of tea and coffee are provided, but you are advised to bring a lunch with you, or a take out can be arranged from the local pub.
