Mark reviewed: Box making weekend in Cumbria

"I had previously been on a cabinet making course that Mark teaches with Richard at the Wood workshop, While there I admired Mark's boxes on display in the showroom with much envy. Talking to him about his boxes, he told me about the courses he was setting up and I jumped at the chance to be on the inaugural course. I already knew the standard of tuition which not surprisingly was maintained on the weekend course. Good fun, relaxed but at the same time fairly intense. The result.....a fantastic box, the standard of which I was amazed at, especially in 2 days! Admittedly with lots of guidance :-) Thanks for a great weekend. will be back for more courses in the future."

Susan Kew reviewed: Screenprinting weekend with Liam Biswell

"We have used Liam for several workshops in the past few years. Our A Level girls were completely inspired by the screen printing workshop that he ran and enhanced all of their portfolios. We have been so impressed with Liam's workshops that have been very accessible and brilliantly resourced, so much so that we are investing in more print making equipment at our school. I would not hesitate in recommending anyone who wishes to explore print making in more depth, these are fantastic worshops!"

Annie Wilkes reviewed: Screenprinting weekend with Liam Biswell

"Liam provided a clear and easy to follow introduction to screen printing and we all were inspired by seeing the wonderful variety in his own printmaking. Forty or so young people enjoyed creating their own photographic screen prints with very striking results. They were all excited and enthused by the experience. All the materials were very high quality providing rich prints on different colours, textures and weights of paper."

Irene funnell reviewed: Introduction to Glass Fusing with Enamels - Full Day Workshop

"A very enjoyable day, well worth the cost. We had a great demo and time to explore the materials and make samples before the excellent lunch. Afterwards we were able to make a larger piece and Steve was a helpful and patient advisor. He was generous with materials and flexible - although we were making a wall-hanging I was able to place mine on a mould and slump it. We went back the next day for the opening of the kiln and were able to take our finished work away.."

susan cleghorn reviewed: Weaving: the journey begins

"I was taught how to weave by Ashleigh and rate his teaching and course content very highly. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all aspects of weaving, and combines a sound knowledge base with the ability to let a learner move at her own pace. As a result of doing a weaving course with Ashleigh, I bought a small hand loom and was able to go back to see him as I developed new skills. What I really liked about this course was its setting in Blairgowrie, with its links to weaving history. Highly recommended."

Sheila Wendes reviewed: Blacksmithing courses

"Excellent teaching. I learnt so much. No matter what level of practical skills you bring to the day, Lucille will assess exactly what you need to keep you busy and productive. Her artistic skills and keen eye are as acute as her practical abilities. A really fun day, in an interesting working forge, in capable hands. And you get to keep the result! Highly recommended. A perfect gift for someone who has everything. They won't forget this. Neither will you!"

I'm so pleased with the fruits of my labour after one day. I definitely want to do it again & would absolutely recommend it. Lucille makes you feel so at ease & welcome. Go on give it a try you won't be disappointed!"

LINDA EDWARDS reviewed: Encaustic Art - What do you want to learn?

"Having never tried this craft before, it was an engrossing and thoroughly enjoyable experience!! Mel was enthusiastic and so generous with her knowledge and sharing of skills!!! Nothing was too much trouble and I was able to experiment with many different aspects of the encaustic craft. Mel enabled me to create work that I would have thought impossible to achieve at the beginning of the day and has definitely started a hobby that I want to continue. Try it!! You'll be amazed at what you can do and Mel is a joy to be around!!!"

Mara Morris reviewed: Wet Felting - Pockets and Purses (Beginners) Saturday 24th Jan

"Lorraine is an extremely skilled teacher and incredibly knowledgeable about wet felting and all things fleecy. The day was structured perfectly with clear demonstrations and plenty of time to get stuck in and make lovely items to take home. Felting is a totally additive craft which, once you learn, is very easy to do yourself at home with very little kit. However I love the social element and camaraderie of coming to courses and meeting so many like-minded people in such a lovely venue at Denmark Farm. I'll be back for more soon."

The Snail of Happiness reviewed: Felt Hat Making course (intermediate level)

"Another wonderful felting course run by Lorraine. I really enjoyed experimenting with the techniques and learning more about the use of resists and the behaviour of the wool as it is felted. I can highly recommend this course if you have done the beginners one or have a little experience of wet felting and want to learn more."

Peter Wendes reviewed: Blacksmithing courses

"Blacksmithing is one of those elemental things deserving of anyone's bucket list. Whether you want a one-off experience of an essential human skill, or are considering something more long-term, Lucille has the skills, knowledge and understanding to provide a user-friendly day with something worthwhile to take home into the bargain. Fantastic value too."

Bryan Clover reviewed: Introduction to Glass Fusing with Enamels - Full Day Workshop

"I booked this course for my ten year old daughter, following an earlier short course which she had enjoyed immensely. I remained with her during the day as she had to be supervised more closely than the adults. Steve's instructional style is incredibly patient and he manages to provide help to all of the participants equally. He was careful to explain the use of enamels, how best to achieve the results that you wanted, and what factors might influence the end product. Where our choices would not have been appropriate, he nudged us in the best direction. In addition, he was very generous with the materials that we used. Achieving the right balance between instruction, safety and fun is very difficult with a diverse audience, but he did it easily. My daughter had a really enjoyable day which we considered to be very good value for money."

Charles reviewed: Firebird Forge Blacksmithing School

"Great fun! Received a days blacksmithing for a birthday present and thoroughly enjoyed it. Made a poker and tongs for my fireplace with the aid of patient and good humoured direction from Mort. Terrific teacher with plenty of anecdotes, but always professional and attentive to the task in hand. I have a sneaking suspicion this may well become an expensive hobby...."

The Snail of Happiness reviewed: Wet Felting - Pockets and Purses (Beginners) Saturday 24th Jan

"A couple of years ago, this course was my first introduction to wet felting and I have been hooked ever since. It's a gentle course - low impact felting - that results in a useful, durable object at the end... I am still using the passport case that I made. And, even better, all the wool is British."

Emma Roberts reviewed: Wet Felting - Pockets and Purses (Beginners) Saturday 24th Jan

"Wet felting with Lorraine is a wonderful fun learning experience. Fantastic choice of wool fibres & Lorraine explains about each type & how some are easier to felt than others. You start your day by making your template, then lay out your fibres. Then the fun really begins - soap suds & warm water! Seeing how fibres can turn into a felted cloth is amazing. Yes you do have to work at it quite physically, but it is no more difficult than scrubbing your dirty dishes at home - it just takes longer! You'll break for lunch & eat your packed lunch that you bring, then it's straight back to it. You'll be so keen to carry on felting, you'll eat your lunch at super speed! In the afternoon, you'll spend a lot of time being shown how to shape & form the felt into your final product. You'll be rolling your felted item in a bamboo blind, which does require a lot of work from your arms, but we worked in pairs - so it wasn't so bad. You will be so proud of what you have made & the felting bug is really catching! I loved it. We had a friendly group & the process is explained & shown in great detail by Lorraine. I had done some simple wet felting before I did my course with Denmark farm, but I am certain that Lorraine would be an excellent teacher for any beginner to this craft! Definitely suitable for all, not just women! I am so glad I went on a Denmark Farm Course & yes I have booked another....felt hats next time! :)"

Peter Rowland reviewed: Introduction to Glass Fusing with Enamels - Full Day Workshop

"I decided to do this course after visiting The Glass Studio in St Davids. My reasons for doing so were firstly how much I admired the work on display and wanting to know a little more on how the effects are achieved. I had an idea what I wanted to try and produce before I arrived and met up with the other attendees. I think to have a idea already in your mind is quite important as it allows to to practice on the small samplers before diving in to produce the main piece. What I ended up with I was very pleased with. It did represent what I had in mind but with the valued help given by Steve it turned out as something very unique. It is now on display in my living room at home and certainly attracts positive comments when viewed by outsiders; even the samplers are on display at the top of the stairs. In conclusion my feelings are that it was a really brilliant day, new things learnt and nice to meet interesting people also with a willingness to learn and experiment. I greatly recommend this course to any one thinking about doing it."
