Jane Coward reviewed: Hand spinning for beginners at Cartmel Handspun

"With no previous experience of spinning under Elaine's tutelage I was soon spinning. I enjoyed the whole day, made better with only 1 other pupil on the course which meant that if I needed help or guidance Elaine was there to assist me. I would heartily recommend this course & Elaine whether you are inexperienced or wish to progress with spinning. I'm sure there is lots more to learn."

Freda Timms reviewed: Glass Fusing Workshop

"I came to the workshop as a friend thought I would enjoy it. Was not sure how it would work as not happy about cutting glass and cutting myself. However, not a problem Ann was such a help and before you got into making something she talked through the tools and you had to practice with the tools and different glass before she let you loose on the material you would use. Very informative, very relaxing, albeit you want to make sure your work is what you want it to be, this being achieved with help from Ann when you needed it. Very sociable, lots of cups of tea and naughty things to eat, and always a super lunch, so no need to cook when you get home. I have made a variety of things. I usually put a copy of what I want to make in Ann's front door a week before I go so she can get the colour glass I need. Can't believe how enjoyable it is. Than you Ann."

Helen Hodges reviewed: Beginners Hand spinning - 'From fleece to fibre’ - at All in a Spin

"It was my sister who spotted the course and I have to confess that I wasn't too sure what to expect. I've previously tried a number of different crafts including knitting and felting so agreed to go more out of curiosity than any thing else .... It turned out to be a fascinating introduction to spinning. As a bit of a city girl, it was really interesting to learn about the qualities of the fleece and how to prepare it ready for use. During the day we were patiently taken though the various techniques in order to produce our own skein of wool. Although I need a lot more practice if I am ever to produce a consistent yarn, I feel very proud of what I was able to achieve in such a short space of time. This was in no small part down to the excellent tuition received from Dunja. I would definitely recommend the course as I had such a lovely day. I hope that I can find a way to fit spinning into my life."

Anne reviewed: Wild basketry- workshop in the woods, forage your materials

"I’d recommend these courses to anyone…because if I can do it anyone can! I’d been on several basket making courses over the years , with different teachers, and hadn’t managed to come away with anything other than a tangled mess and a belief that I couldn’t do it. I loved the day with Ruby because we were out in nature, sitting around a fire and it all seemed very relaxed. I was very skilfully tutored and encouraged, met some lovely people, ate delicious food and generally had a great time! Not only did I leave the woods relaxed and happy at the end of the day, but I also came away with a very useful basket and a restored faith in my own abilities!"

Wolfgang reviewed: Wood turning courses

"I thought the two days were absolutely AMAZING! When we started out first, I could see you trying to figure out this foreigner standing there, but as we went along, I think it got better and better. And I was positively surprised that towards the end of the second day you (presumably deliberately) turned your back on me to turn a quick piece of your own. I took it as a sign of approval of what I was doing. George is a fantastic teacher. He has his way of teaching, but boy, is he good at it. There is a clear focus on the tooling and technique that will achieve results, and in the two days my technique and understanding increased by an order of magnitude. This was worth every single penny, and then some. And I walked away with three truly stunning pieces that both of us can be proud of. If anybody wants to start out with woodturning, or try some experimental things with texturing and colour, I'd recommend George all day long. Cheers Wolfgang"

Matthew Wilde reviewed: Basket making in Norfolk

"This was a Fantastic course. I booked as part of a Gap year and I found it very enjoyable and informative and it has got me fired up for more. Julie is a brilliant teacher, making sure every one gets help but letting you do everything yourself so it becomes properly ingrained, enabling you to go away with the confidence to do more on your own; Especially after seeing the standard of baskets we produced, very pleased. I would recommend this course to everyone."
