Claire Hilder reviewed: Saturday Mosaic Making - St Albans - Hertfordshire

"I enjoyed the day so much. Audrey is very knowledgeable about all things mosaic and both she and her mum were very supportive and encouraging throughout the day. The range of materials available was brilliant. I've already ordered some tools to help me finish my piece and I can't wait to get back to it. I hope I'll be doing a lot more mosaic work in the future. Thank you so much for a wonderful day!"

Esther Pepper reviewed: Beginners Pottery Day Course

"Hi Matthew Yes, we very much enjoyed the experience - Andrew had such a great time he is seriously looking at taking up throwing as a hobby. I can't tell you how wonderful it was for me to see him so absorbed in something that wasn't work-related. I counted 17 vessels in total. Large or small, they each represented a unique challenge for us first-timers. Of course, much of what we achieved was down to your can-do character, your time-honoured techniques and the clarity of your teaching. Couldn't help but notice how working with clay demonstrates many serendipitous life lessons - from the firm grip that's needed for centring, to slowing the wheel at key moments and when to stop fiddling. A big favourite was that if any project doesn't work out, we can just recycle it and start afresh with a new piece. So for me, clay work represents the perfect blend of meditation and creation - 'One could spend a lifetime throwing the perfect pot and that life would not be wasted,' (to steal a quote from The Last Samurai). Our best regards. love Esther"

Dimbleby Ceramics - Studio Pottery Courses responded:

"Hi Esther, Thank you for the lovely review. I has such a great day teaching you and Andrew, especially seeing the progress you made throughout the day on the wheel. Best wishes Mathew"

Brenda Harvey reviewed: Kate Morrell willow sculpture courses

"Have just had a wonderful day at Kate's with my mum and sister. We each managed to make a beautiful heron (mine is called Harry) despite never having tried willow sculpting before. Kate was very patient and always on hand to help with the shaping as our masterpieces progressed - so our creations really do look like herons! Would highly recommend this course, we are all very happy with our finished birds. Thank you Kate, we will be back. Thanks also to Dave for the lovely lunch (and Cake!). Brenda H"

Carolyn Bettis reviewed: Felt Flowers - Mothers Day Special with Lunch!

"I thoroughly enjoyed the flower making course which I attended as a complete beginner. Despite my inexperience, I was very pleased to see at the end of the morning, that I had quite a credible piece of work in progress! I left feeling that we had been given a very good introduction to the craft and I shall undoubtedly look to carry on."

Lynn Bickle reviewed: Leather Bag Workshop - Two day Evancliffe Leathercraft Workshop

"Absolutely brilliant course. Never expected to be able to make a beautiful bag from undyed sheets of leather in 2 days. Wendy and Clive are warm and welcoming and great tutors, keeping everyone on track and responding to individuals needs as we all found different aspects of the work challenging. When I arrived, I thought the fact that there were 2 basic designs might be a bit limiting but this is far from the truth The 2 bags are very practical designs so can be in daily use, challenging enough to teach a range of skills but able to be completed in the allotted time. The range of dyes and fittings meant we had 4 very different, unique pieces at the end of the weekend. I would heartily recommend this for anyone who wants to learn how to start working with leather but also to anyone who just wants a fun weekend and a bag they can brag they made themselves. And its not just for the ladies, one of our group made bag for his interest in botany."

Evancliffe Leathercraft responded:

"Thank you for your review. We are really pleased you enjoyed the workshop. All four students this weekend produced excellent and very varied work."

Gerard Hunter reviewed: Blacksmith experience day in Sheffield

"Fantastic introduction in the perfect setting! I took the half day introduction class. It was a gift from my wife, and I couldn't have asked for a better one. This course is great if you're new to blacksmithing, or interested in it and it's history. David is very knowledgeable, and a great tutor throughout. He's friendly and works through everything methodically and quickly, but in a great can manner. He shows you they what may look like a simple J-hook (which is what I made) requires a number of blacksmithing skills. The setting of the 200+ year old forge just adds to what is great day. My only disappointment was when it finished. I could have stayed the rest of the day. I'll definitely be booking another course with David. This time a full day."

Anne reviewed: ‘Winter dream ' wool painting face-to-face textile art course in Worcestershire

"I have a great day exploring wool painting or wool watercolour technique with an excellent tutor and artist Raya Brown. I loved the therapeutic experience of handling natural fibres and laying them to create new colours and images. Guided by Raya I made a lovely wool fibre painting which is already hanging in my dinning room. I feel like I learnt so much within one-day workshop and going to make another wool painting next weekend. It is a fascinating technique and I recommend every art and craft person to attend Raya's wool painting courses."

Sue Pryde reviewed: Felt Flowers - Mothers Day Special with Lunch!

"Emma has a vast array of colours and materials to choose from. Her explanation of techniques is excellent and her attention to those on the course is such that everyone achieves a really good standard in what they produce without any feeling of pressure. Emma’s years of experience enable her to see where she should offer guidance and when to let people to explore their own ideas. I really appreciate Emma’s approach: whilst I’m a novice I’m sure that even experienced felters would pick up tips and learn more from Emma."

Joe Pitt reviewed: Woodturning in Devon with Colin Simpson

"I’ve just had my third day with Colin; the first was as described above. The second was when he kindly came over to my newly fitted out albeit cramped workshop and went through all the equipment which I had acquired en masses from a retired woodturner. I decided to have a 3rd day with him - this was to be a needs-led day with it being very much what I wanted to discuss and practice on having started the hobby and having had my more than fair share of problems. The day didn’t disappoint. We started by going through preparing blanks (I am lucky to have a good supply of forested hardwood), techniques in minimising problems in seasoning and green turning. This was followed by some more specific problems I was having such as the problems I was encountering with the shape of the sharpened bowl gouge I was having, deep hollowing and the confusion that I suspect all beginners have with what finishing products to use and when. All in all another excellent day."
