Description

Design and make your own mosaic. Explore traditional or contemporary approaches using beautiful glass and ceramic tiles. Potential projects include a decorative panel, mirror frame, trivet or house number/name. An inspirational slide show is followed by instruction on materials and shaping techniques. A design session will help you develop your own creative project in the style and material of your choice. You are welcome to work from your own design or one provided by Zantium. Grouting and finishing demonstrations conclude the workshop. Open to both beginners and those with experience. Tutor: Peter Massey – MA (RCA) Peter and Alison are the founders of Zantium Studios, a creative partnership specialising in mosaic. Their activities include designing, making and teaching. Their work has appeared in various publications, RHS shows and has been featured on Channel 4 TV. Graduating from The Royal College of Art in 1994, Peter originally worked as an illustrator for clients such as Ladybird Books, Dorling Kindersley and The Natural History Museum. He developed a strong interest in mosaic and Zantium was established in 1998. • Purpose built studio in beautiful Peak District setting • Relaxed, creative atmosphere • 4 - 6 students per workshop • Open to both beginners and those with experience • Good fresh food, homemade cakes • Accommodation on site and nearby if required • Private groups welcome (minimum 4 people) Start time: Join us from 9.30am for tea/coffee and introductions. Tuition starts at 10.00am. There are breaks for lunch and a tea & cake mid-afternoon. What's included in the price?

A tempting selection of quality glass and ceramic tesserae will be available. Depending on the project, the price is typically around £20 per square foot of mosaic. This includes base board, adhesive, most mosaic tile ranges and grout. We also stock embellishments such as beads, glass globules and mirror. Note: This materials charge is in addition to the course fee All tools and equipment are provided. You will be required to wear safety glasses/goggles when you, or others, are cutting tiles. A tasty light lunch is included in the course fee. Please let us know of any special dietary requirements. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available all day to help yourself and there will be home-made cake mid afternoon.
