Silk Ribbon Embroidery Christmas Decoration

X

Description

Silk ribbon embroidery is fun, easy to master and very versatile. The three-dimensional effect of this soft, tactile form of needlework is one of its most endearing qualities. Pure silk ribbons are the only ribbons fine enough to slip through the eye of a needle and then though fabric to create delicate silk flowers. Silk ribbon embroidery uses a few stitching techniques that are unique but do not let this put off as they are very easy to learn. Jacqueline Schultz, one of our specialist tutors, will guide you through the dynamics of various stitches to create a variety of flowers and leaves for this project. Remember that Mother Nature is not perfect, and so our ribbon embroidery flowers do not have to be either. It’s all about colour, balance, tension and texture … and of course the skills you will learn. Some of the techniques covered during this workshop will be prepping face fabric and backing fabric using herringbone stitch. Discovering how to transfer a design using an invisible pen. Giving flow and interpretation to a design. Two ways of dying silk ribbon, one discussed and one practiced. Backing a hoop and making your embroidery into a Christmas ornament/decoration. Stitches covered during this workshop will include, chain stitch and stem stitch using stranded thread. Ribbon stitch, Detached chain (lady daisy stitch), Twisted chain (optional) and French knots (optional) using silk ribbons. During the day tutor, Jacqueline Schultz, will model each step of the project and you will also receive comprehensive instructions. Jacqueline was first taught embroidery as a child by her grandmother and has studied with the Royal School of Needlework. Level: minimal sewing experience is necessary, therefore this course is suitable for both the beginner and more experienced, enthusiastic sewer.
