Flowers on Woodblocks with Rachel Davies

X

Description

A workshop celebrating the flowers that will soon be appearing in our gardens. I will supply close up images of beautiful flowers. During the workshop you will choose an image of a flower that you like and then learn how to transfer the photocopied paper image onto cotton fabric using Bonda web and water. A set of simple stitches such as lazy daisy, french knots and running stitch will be demonstrated and practised while the fabric dries. The image of the flower on the cotton fabric is then stretched onto a hoop and embellished with hand embroidery. I will take everyone through each step explaining the stitches and how to choose coloured embroidery threads that will work best with the colours of your flower. The embroidered fabric is then cut into a square shape and then adhered onto a wooden block. The final block can stand on a shelf or go on the wall. The session is suitable for non-sewers, as well as the experienced who would like to find new techniques to explore. It is a relaxing day, in beautiful surroundings. Bunbury Mill has a large carpark and a pretty Mill pond with ducks and picnic benches.
