Description
A day spent getting to grips with the mysterious language and markings of sewing patterns! We'll go thought all the instructions, fabric qualities, markings and guides and then get started on cutting out the pattern pieces for your garment, with an aim to get you well on the way with your project. Please bring with you a beginners pattern and the required amount of fabric, which will be given on the back of the pattern packet. Look for a pattern that says 'easy' or 'beginners' and also make sure you have any other notions required, such as hooks or poppers etc. A simple top, skirt or drawstring pyjama trousers would be a good place to start - leave the tailored trousers and evening dresses for later! It is a good idea to pre-wash your fabric before you come to avoid shrinkage after making your garment. Please avoid slippery satin or silky fabrics and fabrics with stripes of checks which can be difficult to match at the seams. You will learn: - How to read your pattern - How to trace off the correct size, leaving the pattern intact for use in another size should you wish - How to layout your pattern pieces to make the most of your fabric. - How to transfer all the essential markings for darts and notches etc - How to set up your sewing machine - and some trouble shooting - How to understand the different qualities of fabric - How to sew and finish seams neatly Our Studio is in a beautiful converted Oast with exposed beams and gentle views across the farmland. Filled with mouth-watering aromas from The Oast Bakery, where Alison prepares our delicious refreshments, this is the perfect place to escape the pressures of daily life and enjoy some creative time for yourself. Our aim is to offer the chance to unwind, learn a new skill and meet like minded people whilst enjoying a cuppa and a slice of cake. "I love coming to the Oast Studio. I have learned so much. I went from almost zero knowledge and experience to feeling confident in being able to select fabric, cut out patterns and then use a sewing machine by myself. The atmosphere created by Alison and Annabelle is always so warm and welcoming. I find the courses therapeutic as I get to sit in beautiful, peaceful surroundings with lovely people while focusing exclusively on a creative for a few hours." JULIA M
