Netsuke Hare Sculpture Workshop - Clay Sculpture - Blended Monkey

X

Description

This half-day group workshop with our guest figurative sculptor, Christine Pike, is suitable for all skill levels. Netsuke were decorative carved beads that fastened an inro box to traditional Japanese clothing (kimonos did not have pockets). Hares were a popular subject. Our hare sculpture is inspired by the simplicity and purity of line found in Japanese miniature carvings - but we will be working on a larger scale (approx. 17 cm) to create a contemporary sculpture that will be at home in any setting traditional or modern. It could also be displayed as a small garden feature, if you wish. Christine will show you how to hollow build your sculpture, pushing from the inside out to create the deceptively simple shape of a sleeping Arctic hare. The artistry lies in choosing what to put in and what details to leave out, reducing your design to the essentials in order to capture the ‘essence’ of the animal you are creating. You will be offered a choice of glazes to enhance the beauty of your piece and give a professional finish. The glazing and firing will be carried out by Louise (ceramicist from Blended Monkey) and we will let you know when your sculpture is ready for you to collect (please allow at least 14 days). Your piece can be posted out by arrangement. The hares will be made from stoneware clay - so you can display them indoors or outdoors. This NETSUKE HARE SCULPTURE WORKSHOP will be held in the peaceful setting of our Blended Monkey studios on the Cambs/Norfolk border. Numbers are limited to ensure you get plenty of 1-2-1 tuition. This sculpture workshop is suitable for 14+ with under 16s accompanied by an adult. About a week before your workshop date, we'll e-mail you again with more details about parking etc. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day - tailored to meet all dietary requirements. All students will be provided with a certificate of completion. This would make a fabulous CRAFTY GIFT for someone - so drop us a line and we can post out to you/the recipient a complimentary personalised gift certificate for this experience🎁 The half-day workshop includes: - Materials & use of equipment on the day - Refreshments (tea/coffee/soft drinks/cake) - catering to all dietary requirements - As we limit the number of people, you get to have some 1-2-1 tuition and the maximum benefit from a day with no distractions - Glazing & firing of your work - Certificate of completion - Please wear clothing clothes that you don't mind getting some clay on. We also offer accommodation in the form of our Crafter's Retreat cabin subject to availability or we can advise of other local B&Bs. Get in touch via the 'message the tutor' button for more info.
