Introduction to Kiln Formed Glass - Light Catcher Workshop

X

Description

Light catcher workshop ~ If you’ve ever fancied having a go at making something in glass but not sure if you want to commit to a longer, more expensive workshop, why not try a 2.5 hour taster workshop and make some hanging light catchers? During the session you will make up to 3 light catchers which measure 5cm x 15cm. If you’re a quick learner and if time allows you can make an additional piece for an extra £4 which covers the cost of materials and firing the glass. You will have access to a wide choice of coloured transparent glass and pre-fused cabochons which you can use to design your own piece of art and our tutor Sally will teach you how to cut glass and will help you design your hanging decorations After the workshop your pieces will be taken to Sally’s studio where they will be fired in her kiln. They will be ready in 14 days when they can be collected from Stanwick Lakes. Suitable for adults of all abilities, teenagers welcomed if accompanied by a responsible adult. For health and safety reasons please do not wear sandals or open toes shoes. About the Tutor After a 36 year career in Local Government Sally thought it was time to try something new. She loves to be creative and wanted to do something that would combine her creativity with her geeky technical side. Sally has always loved glass, particularly the reflections you get from the sun shining through garden art and after attending a couple of basic glass fusing courses she bought her first kiln in 2019. There are so many things to make, different techniques to learn, firing schedules to understand - the possibilities for experimentation are endless. Sally loves teaching workshops, they are always relaxed and fun and she encourages everyone to come up with their own designs. She particularly enjoys working with people who say they are not artistic or creative because they always surprise themselves by creating something beautiful.
