In this full day workshop, create your own stunning seascape embroidery. Embellish it with shells, fabric, beads and stitch. You will begin by adding small amounts of organza to your background fabric and positioning your main shells. You will then learn a variety of surface embroidery stitches using a selection of threads to add interest and texture to your work. Seaweed, plant fronds and sea urchins, perhaps. Then discover how to embellish your design with beads to create pearls and shimmering effects. The stitches on tutor Stephanie Palmer’s inspirational sample include: - Double sided blanket stitch. - Chain stitch. - Covered beads. - Fly stitch. - French knots. - Pistil stitch. - Stem stitch. - Woven picots. Stephanie will also introduce you to Backstitch wheel, Bullion knot, Buttonhole stitch, Raised band, Star Stitch, Seeding, Trapped Items, Whipped Spider’s Web, Whipped Spider’s Web with an open middle, Woven Wheel & Wrapping. No previous experience is required but those who have embroidery experience will be able to extend their repertoire with a range of unusual and interesting stitches.

We specialise in haberdashery and needlecrafting materials and workshops, with an international reputation for stocking over 10,000+ different button designs. Our classes are held in a beautiful beamed room at the top of our medieval building in York and in the Yorkshire town of Ilkley in a converted Victorian double-fronted shop. They are taught by practicing designers and makers with considerable expertise in (and passion for) their respective crafts, and considerable teaching experience.
