Description

Options within jewellery making are endless and can be overwhelming. Alison Flanders offers a taster session for those not ready to commit just yet, but wish to have an introduction by making rings using sterling silver. Scheduled classes begin at 11am. However, other times, and private 1-1 sessions with varying prices, can be arranged. Please reach out via the 'message the tutor button' for more information. Classes are held in her dedicated shared space in Cockpit Studios in Holborn, Central London. Each student has their own bench with all tools and equipment. At the moment there are four benches fully set-up so each student will get plenty of individual guidance. We use 2mm or thicker round or rectangular wires to make a substantial ring. The workshop runs for three hours and can sometimes overrun a little. By the end of this session you will have learned how to: - Measure ring lengths. - Use the jewellers saw. - Anneal metal. - Use pliers and mandrels to form the ring. - Solder with palliums. - Use files. - Texturing using hammers and punches. - Polish and Finish your ring. - You will be introduced to the various tools and equipment used in the jewellery industry during the session. - Safe and proper use of the tools, crucial to working in any craft, are identified for the students’ future practice.
