"I attended the 1 day furniture painting workshop for beginners yesterday at the lovely Grappenhall Heys Gardens in Warrington. It was a very enjoyable, relaxed and informal day. First class tuition from Jo who took us through several paint techniques step by step. Jo kept us topped up with refreshments and delicious cakes & scones baked by her mum and auntie. I painted and waxed a small side table using the air brushing and ageing technique and I was well chuffed with the final finish resulting in my table now being promoted from garage to dining room. All materials were supplied by Jo with a huge choice of colours. I would highly recommend the workshop and I’m ok considering booking the upholstery course she runs in the future."

"A great course! Jo takes you through a range of techniques and gives you the confidence to experiment on your own piece of furniture. She is knowledgeable, patient and inspiring. "I attended Jo's Painting Furniture workshop in Grapenhall and wasn't sure what to expect as it was a gift from my husband and I hadn't done anything like it before. Jo did a great job of putting me at ease, taking the time to explain lots of different techniques before we got to put them into practice. The workshop was lovely and relaxed and after practicing some of the techniques, we got to paint our own piece of furniture from home. There were lots of handy tips, and I feel like a gained the confidence and inspiration to paint some more pieces (and we got to enjoy some lovely cakes and scones too)."

"I attended the footstool upholstery workshop on Saturday 24th October 2020 at Grappenhall Heys Walled Gardens in South Warrington along with two of my friends. The workshop is held in a potting shed with a kitchen and dining area attached, where you eat your lunch, or you can buy food from the on-site cafe. Tea & coffee is also supplied for you to help yourself to, along with a selection of homemade cakes. Jo is a very friendly and attentive teacher, nothing is too much trouble. She takes you step by step through the fundamentals of upholstery, giving you the benefit of her knowledge whilst giving top tips on materials and methods. We all brought a one metre piece of material to creat the mini footstool (the cushion is approximately 25 by 30cms). We thoroughly enjoyed the day, and I would highly recommend the workshop to budding upholsterers. Thanks Jo x"

"I attended this workshop for a friends birthday and what an excellent choice we made. Jo was a patient and informative teacher who has given me a skill that I can know do at home. Not only do you have a fantastic and enjoyable day, you learn a new skill, get to take your beautiful footstool home and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea as well. Would highly recommend anyone take this workshop no matter what your skill level is."

"I really enjoyed the recent upholstery course at Poynton. We were a small group and the atmosphere was relaxed with Jo on hand to help us all at each stage. Jo is extremely helpful, patient and knowledgable and gave us some great advice and tips to take our new found skills further. The cakes and scones were an added bonus and very much appreciated, thank you Jo’s mum! I am so pleased with my footstool which is so much better than I expected it to be. A great day. Thank you."

"I thoroughly enjoyed the day at The Boho Shed in Poynton (The Centre) with Jo. It was just what I was looking for. I attended a Saturday workshop in September 2020, and was so pleased it was running. We were socially distanced as it was a small class due to Covid-19 restrictions. Jo showed us each stage of the process of upholstery clearly and empathized with any difficulties we encountered. All who attended were of a like-mind, and it was a delight to be an a relaxed environment. I am hoping she will run other classes from Poynton soon as it was a convenient hub for me to travel to and there was dedicated free parking space outside the building. By the way, 'The Centre' is a large village hall with plenty of rooms, a separate kitchen and good toilet facilities. An all-round excellent experience. Well done Jo."

"Attended the furniture painting and upcycling workshop a few days ago and it was excellent! The workshop was a perfect size, really chilled and informal and the location was perfect, surrounded by beautiful gardens and a fab little café. Jo was an excellent trainer and I picked up some great prepping and painting techniques and advice around the best paints and brushes to purchase. Will definitely be attending more of Jo's sessions! X"

"I attended the Footstool Upholstery Workshop at Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden on 21st February (2020) along with five other ladies who were totally unknown to me. Joanne was the tutor and took us through the process of creating a footstool from scratch. Helped and guided by Joanne's clear and simple step by step instructions, we all managed to make wonderful little footstools to take home with us at the end of the day. We got on very well and had lots of fun in the process. It was lovely to see how the fabric we had chosen gave a personality to each of the footstools. They looked amazing and we all felt very proud of ourselves when we viewed the finished items. The workshop took place in a heated potting shed and was very pleasant, despite the inclement weather that day. I would thoroughly recommend this workshop and, of course, Joanne, our excellent teacher."

"I had an amazing time both learning new techniques and brushing up (pardon the pun) on previously taught skills. This was my second experience of the level 1 course, and I was delighted to realise how much more I learnt. The entire day was so much fun, led by an extremely accomplished artist who was so generous in sharing her vast knowledge and experience. Joanne purposed to divide her time between all 8 of us so brilliantly, guiding and advising with ideas personal to each person, and perfectly appropriate to each piece. We all had a fabulous time of bonding throughout the day as we practised the various exercises. We all came away with a greater understanding of approaching furniture restoration, along with transferable skills for future endeavours. We also came away with a finished product that, to my mind, were of a very high standard. I can highly recommend Joanne’s workshops. You will never see a piece of furniture in the same light. A joy!!"

"Had a fantastic day today learning to make a footstool with Jo from the boho shed. She is a great teacher -very patient and encouraging and worked at a pace to suit all. I have never done any upholstery before, but Jo walked us through the steps and everyone ended up with a beautiful footstool to be proud of. The day was very inspiring and I met some lovely people and was kept fed and watered with plenty of tea and coffee and Jo’s gorgeous cakes. I can’t wait to attend another of Jo’s courses and would thoroughly recommend this to anyone looking for an enjoyable day learning the basics of upholstery -you won’t be disappointed!"

"I recently attended the beginners furniture painting course and I absolutely loved it! The woman who runs it, Jo, was very warm and welcoming and she did an amazing job with showing us all some great basic techniques with which to apply to the pieces of furniture we brought! You can really tell that she puts so much effort and love into what she does and its obvious in the advice she gave me when it came to painting. She made me feel like my piece wasn't just a work she thought would be good and was very keen to work around what we each like in terms of colour, style and texture! And that's just talking about the course! The venue itself is a beautiful little gem of a cafe - easily the nicest I've ever been to - where everything from the aesthetics to the staff to the variety and quality of the food and drinks provided is truly top notch! I imagine this review probably sounds kinda cheesy but it's only because of how much I enjoyed the day! To anyone who wants to paint up that old table in the shed or want to spruce up a picture frame, you would be mad to not give it a go!"

"I would like to thank Jo for a brilliant introduction to furniture painting, I'm not very good at arty things but thought I would give this course a try and see what I could produce. We were provided with written, verbal and practical instruction and Jo was very supportive and helpful at all times. And so, we set about using our new learned techniques to transform our tired old pieces of furniture into some lovely items. The course is held in a large and comfortable room near the cafe where we ate a wonderful afternoon tea. I would recommend this course to anyone who is curious/interested in furniture painting and I am certainly going to try my hand at painting some furniture at home."
