"Very enjoyable course. Learned a little bit of history about the sewing technique and some tips and then were able to start working. Large selection of material, thread, and stencils to use to design what we wanted. Also lots of completed examples to give us ideas. Plus, tea, coffee & biscuits. Southland Arts Centre is also a nice venue. "

Jenny reviewed: Gel Printing for Beginners

"My friend Hilary and I took the class on 28th January. I had used a gelli plate before but didn't feel I was getting the best out of it. Jayne is a very inspiring and encouraging teacher and showed us (only 3 of us in the class!) exactly how to do different techniques. There were lots of paints supplied and various things to use to make patterns. We both enjoyed it so much and came away with lots of interesting prints, many of which I will make into cards. The day passed far too quickly and was great fun and relaxing. "

Southlands Arts Centre responded:

"Some students are easy to teach and that's when I do really well. It was a joy having you and Jenny in the class. I'm hoping that both of you will consider entering a print into our women's art exhibition in celebration of International Women's Day. Intake day is 22 February, 1pm-4pm. Both of you had choices among your prints. Why not give it a go? Hope to see you again. "

"This was a really fun workshop. Jayne is a very patient teacher and made the atmosphere really informal. She gave us lots of tips and techniques on a variety of ways to get the best prints. It can be really hit and miss! Jayne even told us how to look after our gel plates at the end. This is an excellent way to spend a few hours, I would definitely recommend both the workshop and the location."

Southlands Arts Centre responded:

"Hi Tracey, thank you so much for booking the workshop. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I thought everyone produced some absolutely super prints, I was very keen on your Monet Waterlilies. I'll see you at Sashiko. "

NS reviewed: Making Handmade Recycled Paper for Beginners

"This was a really fun workshop. Learnt a new skill and it uses non-specialist material so I will try it again at home. Our group got on really well and the tutor was very aware of each person's progress and needs which was nice - she's also quite funny and made me laugh. The venue is also lovely. I didn't look at my phone once in 5 hours. Highly recommended!"

Southlands Arts Centre responded:

"Aah, that's so lovely for me to hear. Thank you so much taking the time to write a review. Not looking at your phone for five hours? What a lovely bonus. I am genuinely pleased you had a relaxing and fun time. You were a pleasure to teach. Beginners' Printmaking now? "

Laura reviewed: Making Handmade Recycled Paper for Beginners

"Really great course. We learned the entire process from what supplies to use to blending, thickness needed, etc - with hands-on opportunities for all steps. We made several different colours of paper and there were items to add to the mix for more interesting results. Jayne (instructor) was very relaxed and guided us for ideas and techniques, but gave us freedom to experiment. She had different size screens to use for different size paper and also had many example pieces. All supplies were included and we each made lots of different paper to take home. Now to decide how to use them . . . . . ."

Southlands Arts Centre responded:

"Thank you for such a super review, Laura. You are always a pleasure to teach, I'm glad you enjoyed the workshop. We can definitely use the papers for Basia Gorska's Printmaking for Beginners. Did you get them off the cloths yet? You could always post some images on our Facebook page. "

Kiran reviewed: Gel Printing for Beginners

"Attending this course on 25th July, I’ve had the most wonderful time learning a new way to create unique prints every single time. This technique has given me a lot of ideas on how to apply different materials for textures to the prints. The course is a great value for money as it has added a new way to my work, which I’ll be using in conjunction with my other art in future. Very inspiring. Jayne is such a patient teacher and showed me everything from beginning to end, even how to store away the gelli plate after finishing. Thank you Jayne. "

Southlands Arts Centre responded:

"What a super review to receive, thank you so much. You were a pleasure to teach. Gel printing is a lovely relaxing activity, there's no pressure to 'get it right', it's all about finding your style and finding your style you did. Your prints were simply wonderful, a sort of tour of the globe, the colours reminiscent of an allotment in the UK, the South Pacific of Gauguin and the Great Barrier Reef. I'm looking forward to seeing the ones we selected framed and in our Summer Art Exhibition. Hopefully we'll see you again soon at Southlands Arts, once again practising your art. "
