Colleen Williamson reviewed: Pot throwing on the wheel for a Half Day

"My husband and I recently did a 3 hour course on the wheels with Richard. It was so much fun and so well explained and demonstrated. We both ended up with pots that we are proud of for first attempts. Richard is so kind, attentive and knowledgeable - what he doesn't know about pottery isn't worth knowing! We will definitely be back."

"This is the second pottery course we have done with Richard, he is an amazing teacher with so much experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it. My son is 15 and doing 3D Art GCSE and this has given him some extra experience during the time he has been away from school during the pandemic. I would highly recommend Richard!"

Potterydayz responded:

"Thank you very much. Lovely to pot with you both. See you again"

"Birthday present: I was apprehensive walking in but needn’t have worried. There were plenty of sanitizers and sat within the 2 metre distance. Had a great day with Richard teaching us how to throw a pot on the wheel. Made 3 pots and a vase. Looking forward to going back for the next process."

Potterydayz responded:

"Well done Angela, and many thanks for the review, see you again soon."

"Never had any experience with pottery before, and the tester session was all worth it. I enjoyed it throughout, I found it much easier and person centred than in any school/ college environment. Made two pots and definitely will be back for more. Highly recommended."

He was patient with our amateur efforts and generous with his knowledge and expertise. He made us a lovely lunch, and we went home happy and rather grubby! A really enjoyable course - I would thoroughly recommend it."

"I did this half day course with two friends. Richard is an exceptional teacher - he keeps things clear, gives you plenty of time to learn and try things out without micromanaging, and is extremely supportive and encouraging. We have already been back a second time (with a fourth friend in tow!) and will certainly be returning again in the future. I cannot recommend this half day course highly enough."

Potterydayz responded:

"It was a pleasure to see you all here at Potterydayz and I look forward to welcoming you again in the near future. Thank you very much for the review Richard"

Susan Broccoli reviewed: Pottery wheel throwing taster

"What a creatively therapeutic morning! I spied this special offer over on Instagram a month back and thought what a great present for me and my husband to do together and how right I was! This morning we travelled over to Kings Cliff to the pottery studio of Potterydayz and were greeted by Richard, our master potter, another couple; Juliet and Dion.. and not forgetting the resident cat and a cup of coffee. Richard’s expertise is amazingly quick, not like us beginners, at the three basics on centralising, opening and lifting. He gives you slow instructions with his demonstrations to get you on your way with your own wheel to play on. It looks so easy, especially after watching weeks on The Great British Pottery Throwdown! Alas, it’s not quite as easy as it looks; arms in - speed up - water here and there - remove the water - delicately on and delicately off as one quick move and it’s destroyed before your eyes, but it’s so much fun. Richard guides you into getting the right techniques.. clay after clay as you try to learn by your mistakes. I failed on two attempts with one coming in half lol and the other ending up a wibbly wobbly mess... it’s all in the learning... and then with a bit of help you’ve got something. It’s time to stop and finish off. It’s hard work but relaxing, it’s draining but exhilarating, it’s dirty (very dirty) but you don’t care! After you’ve pushed, squeezed, pulled, you eventually get your vase, jug, bowl or whatever your creation looks nearest to...?, you obviously feel very proud. The workshops are 2 hours give or take, and no rush to get you out the door when you’ve finished. It’s a great experience whether you do the experience with a partner, friends or on your own. I’ll be picking my half-vase up in a few weeks to glaze it. Thanks Richard for a great morning."

Potterydayz responded:

"Delighted you both got so much out of the workshop. Look forward to seeing you both again soon."

Peter Richardson reviewed: Pottery wheel throwing and hand building full day

"I just wanted to say what a great Pottery day we had with Richard ealier this month. Both I and my wife Ann are relative novices, but Richard's teaching methods, manner and obvious love of pottery was inspiring, and we improved so much in the hours we spent with him. We're both very keen to return, and I understand that Raku sessions are also available, which would be amazing. Many thanks to Richard - a lovely, patient man, with years of experience and skills to share (he also makes great soup!) Peter and Ann (Irthlingborough, Northants)"

Potterydayz responded:

"Hi Peter and Ann, Thank you! It was a pleasure to have such able and enthusiastic students. You did really well! Richard."

"Excellent experience of potting thanks to Richard. Very personal tuition, showing us step by techniques. Enabling us to create ceramics pots from the wheel and hand building. We were so pleased with what we learnt and made during the session. All topped off with a delicious homemade soup. We will definitely be booking again."

"A thoroughly enjoyable experience which was enhanced with the very attentive, patient and amusing host Richard. Sharing the afternoon with my 13 year old granddaughter was obviously very special but we had such a great time and found the pottery wheel quite addictive. We are both looking forward to glazing our efforts. Thank you."

Rowena Lucas reviewed: Pottery wheel throwing and hand building full day

"I really enjoyed my day with Richard, what an excellent teacher - showing real detail about how to actually use your hands and your body to get the clay doing what you want. I'm looking forward to having another go. I ended up with 2 'pots' from the wheel and 2 handmade. Richard gave me the instruction I needed and then gave me the space to try it out for myself, patiently giving me yet another new start until I got it right. Great achievement as far as I was concerned - my 2nd pot was quite delightful! Thank you for a satisfying day."

Potterydayz responded:

"It was a pleasure to see you here at Potterydayz Rowena, I am happy that you enjoyed your day. See you again soon I hope. Happy New Year All the best Richard"

"Had an excellent day in November on one of Richard's all day courses, throwing pots in the morning and hand sculpting in the afternoon. Richard is a great relaxed teacher...we made a lot of messes! But he just kept encouraging and showing us and we managed to throw pots we were happy to have fired. Can thoroughly recommend this..one of us is quite creative, the other not so much but both of us enjoyed it so much and was lovely to do something together."

Potterydayz responded:

"Delighted you enjoyed your time here at Potterydayz, hope to see you again in the near future."

Sarah Morten reviewed: Pottery wheel throwing and hand building full day

"Booked a day with Richard for my husbands Birthday. Wasn’t really sure what to expect. Richard made us feel very welcome and was very helpful (with me) as this was my first time making coil pots. We had a lovely lunch which Richard had made for us from his own home grown veg and some yummy bread. After lunch we moved on to the potters wheel. My husband really enjoyed this part as he knew what to do .... me on the other hand needed more help (which Richard provided). We both had a really enjoyable day with some laughs ‘thrown’ in along the way. Thank you Richard"

"As a total newbie to pottery I was a little worried about not being able to do anything and coming away disappointed. I couldn’t have been more wrong and my worries were unfounded. Richard was kind, patient and a brilliant teacher. I had an absolute blast and can’t wait to see how my items turned out! It doesn’t matter if you’re a novice or if you’re a worrier, Richard was great throughout the whole session!"
