Nick Thorn reviewed: Stonecarving Weekend, Gloucestershire Cotswolds

"This was an excellent introduction to stone-carving, providing an opportunity to get to use a wide range of hand-tools. The days were highly enjoyable and I met a really good bunch of people from widely different backgrounds. The course has resulted in my taking up carving in quite a serious way."

Tony White reviewed: Wood turning courses

"I was given a course in wood turning with Artistry in Wood for my birthday. I spent a very enjoyable day with George learning the basics of the art of wood turning. I was a complete beginner but I came away at the end of the day, with what I consider to be, a fantastic fruit bowl. George was patient, very knowledgeable and friendly and he and his wife even provided me with tea, coffee and lunch. I was very impressed with the level of training I received, the facilities and the great day I had. Thanks George, I will be recommending the course to anyone who wants to take up a new hobby and won’t hesitate to go back to George for more training once I have mastered all my newly learnt skills. Many thanks, Tony White"

Sarah reviewed: One day leather bag making workshop

"Fantastic day where I managed to make a beautiful lined leather bag in a day! Definitely helps to have an idea of what you want to achieve, and be as prepared as possible (photos, measurements). Studios are light and airy with a fabulous café next door. There are a range of leathers available if you are not bringing your own. I learnt new skills that would be hard to get from just watching videos or by reading books. That said, Rosanna has just had a new book of projects published!"

"Attended the weekend course as a complete beginner. Jude was an excellent tutor with precise guidance and with a small class rapid progress was made. She was also willing to extend the day as necessary to ensure that our piece was finished properly. sadia reviewed: Mosaic workshop at Jackie Nash Art

"I did the one day mosaic workshop with a friend and had a lovely time. Neither of us had ever done mosaics before; I managed to mostly finish my piece (with spare materials to take home to complete) and observed the grouting technique (I've yet to try it on my piece). Jackie was a trove of information, help, hints and tips! The workroom was bright and pleasant, with shelf upon shelf of interesting tiles. Plenty of tea and cake throughout the day. Overall, a friendly atmosphere resulting in a charming and relaxing day learning a new skill at my own pace; I have every intention of carrying it on to decorate my balcony. ?"

"Very impressed with Roy's wide knowledge, passion for his subject and amazing teaching capacity. Nothing was too much trouble. Philip Ancliffe reviewed: Pole Lathe Bowl Turning - Your First Bowl

"I went to Adrian's to further improve my bowl turning. His knowledge, skill and tutoring are excellent. We went through the whole process from start to finish with Ade showing me how he approaches each stage. I came away much more confident especially with feet and rims that had caused me previous problems. Lunch is also superb!! Thanks Adrian."

Ruth Coote reviewed: Embroidery- Stitched hangers with Julie Brand from Tigley Textiles in Worcester

"Made a lovely heart hanger today at Julie's workshop. Her studio is beautifully presented with inspiring work on the walls. I was spoilt for choice when it comes to fabrics, threads, buttons, beads, and lovely dyed lace. I love embellishing things so I was in my element. In my humble opinion I think Julie's work is up there with the best. I look forward to my Dragonfly and Hare workshop in May. Thank you for a lovely day."

Sara Lee reviewed: Basic woodworking and DIY course

"If you lack experience or just confidence in a workshop or around power tools then I would definitely recommend doing this course with David at the Great British Woodshop. He took time to ensure he knew what I wanted to achieve from this course from the start and noted these on a white board as our top objectives as opposed to just following a list of subjects that must be covered. We went through some basics to allow him to see where I was already competent so no time was wasted on areas I already felt confident with. David went over all the tools I was interested in and their alternatives, I was able to gain experience in using all of them in several scenarios, working with different materials; he explained everything clearly and happily engaged in two way discussions rather than just instructing, he made me feel very comfortable in the workshop and was very easy to get along with. In addition to the course, we talked over a few specific projects I had in mind with David giving me great advice advice on how best to approach them including materials and tools."

Michelle Brown reviewed: Traditional Welsh Quilting with Lesley Jenkins in West Wales

"This was an excellent two day course. Lesley was a very patient and extremely good teacher. The venue was very good and there was plenty of tea and coffee throughout the day. The material was beautiful wool from the local woollen mill and there was a good choice of colour mixes. I was delighted with the results - although the actual matching and making was much harder than I thought it would be. The whole experience was very rewarding and I would highly recommend it, as I would all the Make It In Wales courses."

Peveril Walsh reviewed: Wood turning courses in the Midlands

"My wife bought me a days course with Mark which I did this week. Mark is extremely enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about all aspects of wood turning and wood in general. This was my first attempt at wood turning having not used a lathe since my engineering days over 35 yrs ago. Mark is a true craftsman and it was a pleasure to spend the day with him and gain an insight into this craft. With Marks help and guidance I came away with a lovely bowl and very good advice on what he would recommend should I wish to take woodturning up as a hobby. This is something I will now consider doing more seriously as a result of spending the day with Mark. I would thoroughly recommend Marks course to anyone considering doing the same or simply just for the experience."

Sarah reviewed: ** SPECIAL OFFER ** 10% off - Bladesmithing Experience Day - Wiltshire

"I had an absolutely brilliant time on the one day knife making course. Graham is an excellent instructor and would take each stage at your own pace. Despite being a tiny 50 year old with weedy arms I came home with a stunning kick ass knife that I’m super proud of. This course has a big thumbs up from me and I would love to go again."

Andrew Judge reviewed: Learn to carve wooden spoons, beginners and improvers

"I attended a day course on spoon carving and spent an enjoyable day with Dave at the yurt in Brookthorpe. He's an excellent teacher: patient and encouraging and the balance between tuition and demonstration was just right. The atmosphere of quiet, purposeful activity that he promotes was welcomed by all of us, I think, on a restful, yet productive day. Highly recommended."

Andri White reviewed: Intermediate throwing with Richard Heeley

"Much thought from Potclays goes into the care of each member of the class and all the staff there are genuinely kind. The equipment is of a high standard and the room is bright, clean and friendly. Richard is a delightful, knowledgeable and talented tutor with a vast number of tips that make all the difference to making. He showed an ability to intuit exactly what each student needed to know even though we were all at different stages of ability. His enthusiasm inspired risk taking and his calming ‘Zen’ approach inspired confidence. I would happily do the intermediate course with Richard again knowing I would learn more each time."
