X

Description

Three days of woodcarving! I am regularly asked: How do you find a form inside the wood? In this three day course I will share with you my process of creating a sculpture.. I can advise on a project suitable for your level of experience by showing some examples and explain how to design your own work. Or, come with ideas and images either in the form of photos or stretches to work with. I have a good collection of wood and together we will look for a piece suitable for your idea. You will use traditional European woodcarving tools and techniques to carve a your sculpture. During the course, I will guide you through the design and carving process. All techniques and tools will be demonstrated and explained. Throughout the course, I will be present and available to help. I studied sculpture and my teaching experience is based on over 22 years of teaching woodcarving and other three dimensional arts and crafts to adults and children. I love sharing my experience and enthusing others in working with wood. I feel inspired by the ever-changing and evolving forms in nature and the seasons. Animals and the development of plant forms are a constant inspiration for me. Working wood with traditional hand tools and techniques is a very rewarding experience. Each piece of wood is different and carving is a conversation with a unique piece of living material. Limited to 3 participants, the workshops takes place in my woodcarving studio in South Devon which is set-up for teaching children and adults. On leaving you will take home your own personally designed wood carving and will have experienced the process of creating a carved sculpture with traditional tools. Please bring your own lunch. I will provide hot drinks.
