Children's whittling & wood carving classes
Description
These classes are offered by arrangement and will need a parent or guardian also present for the session. This is useful so that children can be supervised to carve safely at home afterwards. The focus of these classes is on good technique to make use of the bigger muscles in the body (as we do with adult classes). Carving can be hard work and tiring for younger children so these classes are generally a short hour and a half to avoid getting too tired and having accidents. In a short session it may be possible to make something like a butter knife, or some wooden flowers. Safe techniques for using spoon carving knives can also be shown, but carving a spoon will often take much longer than 1.5 hours.

With around 30 years experience of training people and working in conservation with trees and green wood work, you will be sure to learn more than just the basics of spoon carving and whittling. Having learnt the professional and safe carving techniques from some of the best out there, I will pass on these skills so that you can also carve safely and with confidence at home, or improve on your technique.
