Description
Join me in the vibrant Govanhill of Glasgow and get introduced to a new skill. I have a background in small- and big-scale carving and will readily pass on my love for wood as a material. All skill levels are welcome; you can bring a project to tackle or choose from a few simple and time-tested projects. During this workshop you will be introduced to the basics of wood carving, working either with greenwood or seasoned wood depending on your choice of project. We will cover the basic aspects of using a carving knife and/or chisels and a mallet. In addition, you will also be using different saws, a drill and a rasp. We will start the workshop with an introduction to the tools we will be using and the safe and efficient ways of using them. We will then discuss what you would like to carve, a small figurine like a mushroom or an everyday object. You will then select your piece of wood, draw your design on it and... carve! While this workshop serves as an introduction to wood carving there is no reason why you won't be leaving with a finished piece in your hands. I will advise on your design and how to keep it simple enough to achieve during the day. All tools, materials and safety equipment will be provided. There will be a 1hr lunch break at around 1pm.
