Description

It’s so disheartening when a beloved knitted garment develops moth holes or starts to wear thin in places. Why not join us for an afternoon with expert knitter and teacher Suzanne Strachan and learn a variety of techniques to repair knitwear and bring a new lease of life back to your favourite clothes? Techniques covered in the class include weave darning, Scotch darning and Swiss darning. Once Suzanne has demonstrated the different techniques, you’ll have plenty of time to practise them yourselves. The class is suitable for anyone (though a basic level of knitting ability helps with the Swiss darning) and numbers are kept low to ensure that everyone has lots of individual support from Suzanne. Please prepare and bring with you 2 x 15cm squares knitted in stocking stitch using a smooth double knit yarn in a light colour (if you’re not a knitter, let us know with enough notice and we can prepare the squares for you). Please also bring a few strands of yarn in contrasting colours of your choice, a tapestry needles (with a dull poit) and an embroidery needle (with a sharp point). Feel free to also bring along a damaged knitted item that you’d like advice on how to repair. Lots of tea, coffee and homemade cake are included. The workshop will be led by expert knitter, designer and yarn consultant, Suzanne Strachan. ‘fantastic course, very well taught – will certainly be signing up for other courses’
