Description
Come spend a day in nature discovering how to carve a beautiful and functional butter knife and wooden spoon with Rosie Mockford. You’ll go through everything you need to know to transform a green wood branch into functional items - making a Swedish style butter knife in the morning, and moving on to a cooking (or similar) spoon in the afternoon. Things you'll learn include: - Wood selection and understanding grain direction. - Going from log to billet using axes and mallets. - Design considerations. - Axing out a butter knife and spoon blank. - Safe and efficient knife grips using straight and hooked tools. - Hollowing the bowl. - Finishing oils. - Tool buying advice - straight knives available to purchase on the day. - Brief (optional session) after the end of the day to demystify sharpening, so you’re confident to keep your tools sharp if you decide to continue. This does not replace a sharpening course but should help you feel confident giving it a go, and knowing how to start. Best of all, not only will gain all this knowledge, which will enable you to continue these skills at home, you’ll also come away a knife and spoon of your very own.
