Spoon carving and whittling ~ The Wiggly Path Company offers you a chance to escape for a day, spending time in and with nature, at the beautiful and tranquil setting of Harehope Quarry in Weardale. Come along and spend a day with us enjoying the art of spoon carving and whittling, to design and create your very own tool for life. Sarah and Colin Wilson will be your hosts for the day and take you through all the steps and process needed to begin this fascinating and addictive journey into an ancient craft. We will provide you with everything you need to work safely and confidently to produce your own bespoke wooden artefact. What's included in the price?

The day long course is set up for a maximum of four people, it takes place in a purpose-built workshop that provides a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy the making experience. Your day will include ~ An introduction to timber and how to work with nature, safety equipment, safe use of knives and tools, and the techniques and hand grips involved in whittling and carving, advice on the selection of tools and timber, maintenance, and finishing. You will take away a beautiful and natural example of a spoon, made by your own hands that you can be proud of, that is utterly unique in this world. We provide tea and coffee throughout the day, please bring a packed lunch with you to enjoy, whilst absorbing the natural energy of the beautiful surroundings.

Our champions of creativity Colin and Sarah bring their skills and knowledge as designer makers with over forty years experience in wood and textiles to facilitate relaxing workshops in whittling and woodcarving and decorative stitching.
