Description
This taster session is a perfect introduction to the absorbing traditional craft of carving spoons from green wood using simple tools. You will learn new craft skills and go home with your own hand-carved cooking spoon. Starting with an already axed-out spoon blank from green wood you will learn safe carving grips which will enable you to shape the spoon handle and bowl using a straight wood carving knife. You will learn how to work with the grain of the wood to get smooth carved surfaces. You will then learn how to use a curved hook knife to hollow out the bowl of your cooking spoon. We will then discuss how you can finish and oil your spoon once it has dried.

Maker
I'm Mike Craig, a green woodworker based at the Otley Chevin Forest Park which is situated above the picturesque market town of Otley, West Yorkshire. I have over 20 years experience as an educator in countryside management and wildlife conservation and over 10 years experienced as a green woodwork course tutor. The only thing I enjoy more than carving green wood in a woodland setting is helping others to discover and develop their own green woodwork skills.
