Description

A creative experience for adults wanting to learn the technique of steam bending, and about the history and science behind this ancient technique. Don't be put off if you have never worked with wood before - this is not traditional wood work (it's much more fun!) This short course will be spent learning the history of steam bending and how we have evolved the technique. You will understand the science of steam bending and the alternative methods of steaming wood. Half the time will be spent experimenting with the four techniques of steam bending wood: free-forming, twisting using clamps to fix the wood, the strapping method and strapping with compression. There will be time at the end to explore our custom made steam boxes should you wish. Participants on our courses usually end the session amazed by not only the capabilities of the unique technique of steam bending, but by the creation they are taking home with them. We hope you will join us and come away with an experience you will be talking about for years to come. Maximum of 7 places available per workshop. If you would like to book a private group course with us, please contact us via the 'message the tutor' button to arrange an alternative date.
