Description

This introductory day brings you into the ancient world of green wood working. This term refers to working with wood that is fresh or wood with a high moisture content. Explore the techniques of sawing, splitting and carving, along with bushcraft skills that help us stay outside all day. These classes take place at our newly opened, purpose-built site called "The Clearing". This is an urban woodland space located in Lesnes Abbey Woods in South East London. We work all year round in this space, protected by a large parachute canopy and central fire to warm those chilly bones in the winter, and to keep the kettle always hot! We will use green wood, freshly cut with a high moisture content. This is a beautiful and easy way to carve wood. You are supported through the whole process and encouraged to explore carving in your own way and at your own pace. This is an exercise in slowing down and settling your attention.
