One day blacksmithing course in West Wales

Description

Spend a day blacksmithing in the forge with second generation Welsh blacksmith, Aaron Petersen. You will make a range of items to take home, learn some basic blacksmithing skills and have a thoroughly enjoyable day. Small groups (usually 4 or less) ensure personal attention and enable everyone to learn at their own pace. Most of our one day courses take place on weekends. The forge is well placed, just on the edge of Carmarthenshire/Pembrokeshire. We are easy to find, around 10 miles from the market town of Carmarthen and around 3 miles from Laugharne, home of the poet Dylan Thomas. We are about half an hour from Tenby and the coast road with its numerous beautiful beaches. There are lots of places to stay locally and some great places to visit, why not make a long weekend of it? Coming from a family of artist blacksmiths, Aaron has been blacksmithing ever since he could pick up a hammer. He used to be the resident smith at the Museum Of Welsh Life. He is also a qualified teacher, having taught both art and design from secondary school level up to degree level. His ability to teach across different skill levels really makes a difference.

What's included in the price?

We do not provide food - please bring a packed lunch. We do provide copious amounts of tea, coffee and biscuits. We do not provide accommodation but there are lots of places to stay nearby. There is space enough for several cars to park. An outside toilet is available. If you have any special requests, do ask us.

Aaron Petersen is a second generation, fine art trained blacksmith, previously the blacksmith at the museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans. He also worked as a lecturer and is a qualified teacher. Courses are run at the family forge in St Clears, West Wales. We are within driving distance of a number of well known locations, including Tenby. Why not combine a course with your holiday? All the admin is done by Trudi, assisted by Caio, our laid back lurcher.
