Description
If you've always fancied wood carving or whittling, this 3-hour class will start you off right and send you on your way feeling confident to do more. We will use Swedish carving knives and Japanese saws to make a wooden cake knife. This can be the same as one of my suggested designs or slightly different if you choose. The wood we will use is freshly cut or 'green' wood that is easy to cut as it hasn't dried out yet. This is good news for us as its quite like carving cheese and very satisfying. When you've finished carving the wood will dry out and harden over a few days. Gentle guidance and oversight from me means you can fully enjoy the process and let the outcome take care of itself. Suitable for anyone 18+ who'd like to do some carving in a relaxed and convivial environment, including complete beginners. All wood, tools and cake provided. The class is held at Helmsley Arts Centre in North Yorkshire.

I moved up to Yorkshire in 2023 to be closer to family, after over a decade of making furniture and teaching woodworking classes for adults at my workshop in Islington, North London.
