Batik Silk Painting for Beginners - Winter Berries

Come and learn the art of Batik Silk Painting with artist Lisa Deighan in this introductory class. During this four-hour workshop, Lisa will teach you how to engage in this organic process, and using melted wax and inks on silk you will create your very own piece of art based on our Winter Berries theme. Silk painting is such an organic way of making art - you can draw your design straight onto the silk with the wax after you’ve had a practice on paper first. Or, if you’re feeling a little nervous, there are some magic disappearing fabric pens to sketch your outline onto silk first. These lines vanish at the end when the wax gets ironed off. On a wellbeing note, it’s the process of making batiks that’s to be enjoyed, rather than focusing on the end result. It’s such a beautiful mindful activity, and the outcome is always a lovely surprise. You can’t always control every drop of wax or ink, so there is joy in relaxing and enjoying the process. This batik workshop is suitable for all abilities. Please bring an apron or wear old clothes to the workshop.

What's included in the price?

Lisa provides inspirational material and also “templates” of designs if you prefer more guidance, but you can bring along any ideas, sketches or inspiration you might have. To give you an idea of scale, you will be working in a square format approx. 28cm x 28cm. You will also have the option to buy a frame, and Lisa can assist you in framing your work of art at the end of the workshop if time permits.
