Description
We are delighted to bring you this Basket weaving workshop with Nick Vane. Nick is a basket maker with fifteen years experience of teaching groups both in supported-living and recreational pop-up workshop settings. This adult workshop will provide beginners with the knowledge and skills they need for making a simple round basket out of natural willow. We'll be following traditional methods which will include an introduction to the materials, tools, techniques and safety aspects so that basketry can become the beginning of a new hobby. The group will be small so that one to one tuition can be given as necessary and all the tools etc will be available for use. Please wear old clothes or bring an apron as the willow needs to be worked wet. During this workshop you will learn: - How to select and prepare willow - Safe use of basketry tools - How to make a round basket including Pairing the base Staking up the sides A variety of basic weaves How to finish a border - Basketry jargon - Basketry suppliers Our Studio is in a beautiful converted Oast with exposed beams and gentle views across the farmland. Filled with mouth-watering aromas from The Oast Bakery, where Alison prepares our delicious refreshments, this is the perfect place to escape the pressures of daily life and enjoy some creative time for yourself. Our aim is to offer the chance to unwind, learn a new skill and meet like minded people whilst enjoying a cuppa and a slice of cake. "The whole day basket making course was fantastic from start to finish. The venue was fantastic. Food was amazing and plentiful. Homemade cakes and catering to dietary requirements no trouble. Small group(4) max 6 was fantastic. The tutor Nick was excellent and spent time helping us all. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I will be booking onto more courses!"
