'Loose Botanicals in Watercolours' with an optional hint of Christmas with Lyn Evans - a 'Quirky Workshop' at Greystoke Craft Garden & Barns near Penrith and Ullswater
Martin and Kate are great tutors- always on hand to offer practical help and advice and to ensure you improve week by week. The classes are mixed experience so beginners like me get inspiration and motivation from others. The first projects are very well structured to learn the basics, but then you have a lot of freedom to decide where you will go next. Warm, friendly, creative and a real escape.
What an inspiring and creative day! Penny was so welcoming and her studio was delightful (and warm). I was much more of a novice than my fellow two attendees but with Penny's patience and clear guidance, I was able to produce a design and cards that I was really happy with. Penny made copious amounts of hot drinks and served us delicious homemade cakes in the afternoon - we were very well looked after. It really was a great way to spend the day and so much fun with lots of giggles. I can't think of a better way to while away a day creatively.
Four of us spent a fantastic day with Chris and Sarah after I had met them at Edgbaston artisan market and been given two vouchers for a special birthday.
In the morning we were delighted to find we would be working at the wheel and, with a few little mishaps, each of us managed to make three little pots, all completely different! Adding colour with the slip was fun. We can’t wait to see our creations when they have been fired. Chris was really patient and clear, showing us first then giving advice as we went along.
Meanwhile Sarah had prepared a fantastic lunch which we all had together, admiring all the beautiful pottery and glass.
The afternoon was spent in Sarah’s studio learning lots of techniques to make different kinds of glass decorations/pendants/coasters. Again she was a great teacher although it took us a bit longer to get our heads round it - so again she had to be patient with us. Her studio was an Aladdin’s cave of beautiful coloured glass and baubles. We loved it.
Before we left we were able to look at their little shop in the front room and all bought something to take home.
Overall we had a wonderful day and thought that it was good value for the whole experience. Best to wear old clothes for the pottery (some of us were messy although Chris gave us aprons). The directions and instructions were clear and communication before the course great. We were all new to both the pottery wheel and glass, so we learnt a great deal - and were all exhausted by the time we got home. We would all do it again and we can’t wait to go back to collect our creations. Thank you for a wonderful day.
