Maker's bio

I moved up to Yorkshire in 2023 to be closer to family, after over a decade of making furniture and teaching woodworking classes for adults at my workshop in Islington, North London. My new space has the same feel – it's a real, professional woodworking workshop where I make my own furniture and commissions in an environment full of my own random woodworking curiosities. Ever seen a Japanese grooving plane? 18th Century dovetail saw? What about a homemade belt sander? I look forward to welcoming you with plentiful tea, random anecdotes, and always good cheer.

Steve C reviewed: Intro to Joinery Weekend in Yorkshire

"I thoroughly enjoyed this hands on course and learnt more in two days than I would have by watching endless You tube videos. Tom is a Master Craftsman who also has the interpersonal skills to make you feel like you too can create your own woodworking projects with confidence."

Rob reviewed: Intro to Joinery Weekend in Yorkshire

"Tom is a talented woodworker, a natural teacher and just a nice bloke. The weekend course was full of facts, techniques and tips and would be ideal for someone wanting a kick-start into woodworking. Highly recommended. "

Tom Pearce reviewed: Oval Steam-bent Shaker boxes Evening Class in London

"This course was a great introduction to steam bending and also using some power tools. The boxes are useful and make great presents! Tom has a very deep and ongoing interest in woodworking and making things, so you pick a lot up from chatting and being shown various bits in the workshop, as well as from the actual course. It's also a great little venue, both the workshop and the urban farm it's part of. There's a shop just round the corner if you need a snack at some point during the evening."
