Maker's bio

I have an established background in designing and making textiles, working primarily with wool. With a passion for colour, I work with machine knitted and felted wearables and soft furnishings, which I applique, embellish or stitch. I have become fascinated by hand felting for the freedom of colour mixing, mark making and sculptural possibilities it offers, which I find very exciting .

Jane Hanlon reviewed: A One-day Feltmaking Course to Make a Fabulous Felt Hat in the Beautiful Forest of Dean.

"First I would like to say I learnt so much. It was hard to see how a few strands of wool would several hours later be a really stylish one off hat that fitted. Christine, skill, knowledge, patience made the whole experience a joy and something I will treasure. Thank you "

Ali Warren reviewed: A One-day Feltmaking Course to Make a Fabulous Felt Hat in the Beautiful Forest of Dean.

"We had a lovely day and came away with 3 magnificent and unique hats. Christine (and her partner and dog) were all very welcoming. Beautiful views from the house too Christine explained everything clearly and there was plenty of materials and equipment to complete the task. Highly recommended."

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

"Thank you Ali, It was a pleasure to teach you, and I hope you're enjoying your new hats!"

Hannah Emerton reviewed: Make a beautiful felt bag in The Forest Of Dean

"Chris was very welcoming and knowledgable and we created some very colourful bags. There was a a wide range of felting wools to choose from and everything was provided including a delicious soup lunch. Access the house was a little difficult and wouldn’t suit someone with mobility issues."

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

"Thanks Hannah, It was lovely meeting you both. I'm so glad you enjoyed your day here, and hope you'll enjoy finishing and using your bags. Chris"

Anna Billings reviewed: Introductory course covering wet felting and Nuno techniques in the beautiful Forest of Dean

"Four friends who go back 50 years celebrated a big birthday by attending Christine’s felt-making taster day at her beautiful cottage in the lovely Forest of Dene. Christine explored what we wanted to get out of the day and we were helped to each make an individual felt design which would be suitable for framing. We also made colourful felt balls suitable to use as buttons or earrings and made flower brooches. We had such fun choosing our own colours and developing our designs. Christine’s studio was inspirational too, with many beautiful items she had created displayed. We had a delicious lunch sitting in her stunning garden and Christine took several photos of us at work which she promised to share with us. We were so proud of our achievements at the end of the day as we had no previous experience of this skill. We would all thoroughly recommend the day."

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

"Dear Anna, Thank you so much for your kind review. I enjoyed sharing your celebration, and am so pleased that you had a good day. We were so lucky with that lovely weather so we could eat outside! I do hope I'll see you again! Kind regards, Chris"
