Anna Billings reviewed: Introductory course covering wet felting and Nuno techniques in the beautiful Forest of Dean

"Four friends who go back 50 years celebrated a big birthday by attending Christine’s felt-making taster day at her beautiful cottage in the lovely Forest of Dene. Christine explored what we wanted to get out of the day and we were helped to each make an individual felt design which would be suitable for framing. We also made colourful felt balls suitable to use as buttons or earrings and made flower brooches. We had such fun choosing our own colours and developing our designs. Christine’s studio was inspirational too, with many beautiful items she had created displayed. We had a delicious lunch sitting in her stunning garden and Christine took several photos of us at work which she promised to share with us. We were so proud of our achievements at the end of the day as we had no previous experience of this skill. We would all thoroughly recommend the day."

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

"Dear Anna, Thank you so much for your kind review. I enjoyed sharing your celebration, and am so pleased that you had a good day. We were so lucky with that lovely weather so we could eat outside! I do hope I'll see you again! Kind regards, Chris"

Tamsin Kilner reviewed: A One-day Feltmaking Course to Make a Fabulous Felt Hat in the Beautiful Forest of Dean.

"This was a truly excellent experience overall- my daughter was keen to make a top hat and Christine made one the day prior to the course so that she was well-prepared to support my daughter’s project, which turned out fantastically well. We each came away with hats we love, completely made in the one day, and I was so impressed by Christine’s skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm for her craft, as well as the lovely location of her workshop and the facilities she had. Amazing range of colours on offer and lots of examples for inspiration as well. Thoroughly recommend! "

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

"Thank you so much for your review. I really enjoyed our day, and having to get to grips with making a top hat! I've turned the sides up on mine, and it's worked really well! All the best , Chris"

Rose reviewed: A one day felt making course designing and making your own pair of cosy slippers. in the Forest of Dean

"I had a lovely birthday making moss inspired felt slippers with Chris. They went with one of her hats which also had a very mossy theme! Jem made a very delicious lunch which we enjoyed outside in the vibrantly colourful garden. Chris helped me as much and as little as I needed, while making her own pair of gorgeous slippers. Chris and Jem gave me valuable advice for the surrounding area on the rest of my weekend trip, and sent me along with some of Jem's homebrewed cider to celebrate my birthday with! They helped make one of my best and most memorable birthdays, thank you so much for such a wonderful day."

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

"Thank you Rose! I'm so glad you enjoyed your day-and survived your camping in the forest! I really enjoyed our day too. All the best for your next adventure, and new job. Chris "

Mary reviewed: Introductory course covering wet felting and Nuno techniques in the beautiful Forest of Dean

"I had a fabulous day with Christine on 2nd September 2022. The workshop is held in a lovely light workshop in Christine's garden. I have no experience of felting but by the end of the day I had lots of information and practice and lots of inspiration for future makes. We made multicoloured felt circles and turned them into 3D flowers but if flowers were not your thing I felt that Christine could adapt the course to your needs. Lunch of home grown produce and home made cider went down very well."

Funmi reviewed: A one day felt making course designing and making your own pair of cosy slippers. in the Forest of Dean

"A fun course, stretching the beauty from felt. I wondered how the bare felt would become a slipper at the onset and before my very eyes to my amazement things gradually took shape. A great day at a beautiful location, Christine was an amazing hostess and teacher all round. I look forward to my next course :-)"

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

"Thank you Funmi! I hope you had a good journey home and I'll see you again before too long. Chris"

Eileen Mary Saunders reviewed: Introductory course covering wet felting and Nuno techniques in the beautiful Forest of Dean

"I had a fabulous day with Christine creating a 3D picture, with a background, with 3D wet felted flowers, needle felted onto it. I love Christine's understanding of colour and how she helped me create in felt the piece I had imagined in my mind. It was great fun carding to blend colours and also to add texture and the way Christine helped the piece evolve as we played and experimented as we went along."

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

"Thank you so much for your kind review. I really enjoyed working with you, and the challenge of trying to achieve the effect you wanted in the day. You created a lovely piece. I just wish we'd had twice as long to work on it! I've still got lots to do on mine- but as I said, I'll show you mine (when it's finish) if you'll show me yours! Maybe you can bring it along to my open studio in the summer?"

"Had a fantastic time with Christine as a surprise present from my sister. I'm not a crafter but had great fun with the felt-making process from start to finish and made a rather good hat even if I say so myself haha. Christine was great fun and the whole day was relaxed and enjoyable - highly recommended!"

Drusilla Kenney reviewed: A One-day Feltmaking Course to Make a Fabulous Felt Hat in the Beautiful Forest of Dean.

"We spent a thoroughly lovely day with Christine, playing with colour and texture, chatting, laughing and creating, with frequent coffee and tea and an excellent homemade lunch. From my original enquiry - this was a special surprise birthday present for my sister - Christine was enthusiastic, helpful and accommodating. We are both crafting novices. Christine was happy to be flexible and we made our final decision on the day to make felt hats (but were tempted too by the slippers and bags on show). Although we both chose the same style as inspiration, our results were totally different and utterly personal. We have made very special memories with Christine - and very special, individual hats!"

Elke Treherbert reviewed: Introductory course covering wet felting and Nuno techniques in the beautiful Forest of Dean

"A truly inspirational course. It was my second course with Christine and I am glad I did it. Again we enjoyed the private atmosphere in Christine's workshop and a nice round of similar-minded people. We got lots of options to try and everyone produced a unique felting object, or even two. I gave it a go with nuno-felting and concentrated more on trying different techniques simply because Christine's experience of working with the different materials to produce a good quality fabric is massive. It was again an amazing day and I am looking forward to practice now on my own."

Elke Treherbert reviewed: A One-day Feltmaking Course to Make a Fabulous Felt Hat in the Beautiful Forest of Dean.

"It was my first felting experience and it was great. Christine is an amazing, inspiring, knowledgeable teacher. As first-time felter I benefited massively from Christine's experience. We not only made our hats, beyond that is was a real eye-opener what you can do with felt in terms of patterns, material-mix, shapes, and uses. It is a very intimate learning environment giving each of us time to try and get help. There is no rush or pressure, just a wonderful day of hand-crafting in a beautiful setting with people sharing the same interest. I enjoyed it a lot and will come back for another of the courses. Elke, Treherbert"

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

"Thank you Elke! It's been great having you on my courses. I hope I'll see you again."

"What a great day. Christine was a patient, helpful inspiring teacher with a lovely approach to her craft and pupils. Well equipped studio, plentiful cups of coffee, wonderful soup for lunch and a view to die for. The process of making the felt was interesting and absorbing, all the slippers that we made were very individual and creative. I shall look forward very much to wearing mine this winter. I would thoroughly recommend Christine's courses."
