Scotty Dodd reviewed: One to one, One day, blacksmith course

"A superb course and an excellent, patient tutor. I came to Alex with a wish list of skills to try as long as my arm - forge welding, upsetting, drawing down, annealing, normalising, hardening, tempering, bending, twisting, tool manufacture etc etc - we pretty much accomplished the lot in a long hot day at the forge. Alex really knows his stuff and is a very capable tutor. Your experience will be very hands on from the word go. 5***** and looking forward to another session in the future. Cheers."

Tim Redmond reviewed: Furniture making course: Fundamentals of Furniture Making Part 1 (beginner)

"I attended Aiden's two day weekend course in March 2016. I did this because as a hobby I like to restore furniture and I was finding that I struggled when I came to anything structural. Most important, Aiden is an excellent trainer. He clearly is a very skilled craftsman but it doesn't always follow that skilled crafts people can put it across to students. Aiden most definitely can. He was very patient, calm and he had to be with me! I found the two day course quite intense; there was a lot to do in 16 hours but I certainly learnt the importance of ensuring my work was completely square, flat and smooth! It was also useful to learn how to use, dismantle and sharpen a plane. Well done Aiden."

Leia Duffee reviewed: Green woodworking at Coppicewood College

"I came to the green woodworking course through the 6 month Coppicing course. My green woodwork project was tool handles. I had an old handle-less Yorkshire Billhook that I wanted to create a new handle for and an old handle-less drawknife too. These two combined, needed, cleaving work, Axe work, working with a Spokeshave, using a Pole Lathe and creating my own rivets to rivet the Yorkie handle on. All very useful skills and all a lot of fun to do. The instructors are wonderful people who have great passion for everything they teach and their enthusiasm spread to each and every one of us. They make you feel well looked after, well taught and I would recommend this course to anyone who enjoys being in woods and working with wood, and to anyone who thinks they might like it, you will!"

Suzy Devey reviewed: Encaustic Art - What do you want to learn?

"I spent a full day course with Mel on Thurs 31st March 2016. Melanie is nothing short of excellence, her knowledge and experience through her own experimental practice shines through. What a delightful day! I travelled from Scotland thinking what will this be like? I was met by a friend, it seemed uncannily as if we had met before:). I didn't know how to make the most out of the new tools I had purchased, but I loved the medium. Melanie took me through some fabulous basic techniques and then continued to tailor the day through experimentation, which answered my questions about encaustic media. The day also fully left me feeling confident in my work and how important playing and experimentation really is. We both ended up learning from this day in a relaxed and beautiful location. I can't wait to do more and see more of Melanie's work emerge. Huge Thank you Melanie. I would have no hesitation to do it again straight away."

Sarah reviewed: Hand spinning for beginners at Cartmel Handspun

"We had a brilliant day learning the process of spinning using a drop spindle and spinning wheel. Elaine was very patient, encouraging and really knowledgeable and helpful. There was a range of different spinning wheels available for us to try which was great. It was a really enjoyable and informative day and brilliant to come away with yarn I had drafted, spun and plied myself. Loved it :)"

Marion Janner reviewed: Needle felting course with Furzie at Saltisford Canal Trust, Warwick

"What a brilliant day! I'm a complete craft klutz but Michelle was so patient, encouraging and skilful that by the end of the day I was thrilled to take home a delightful Herbert the Hare. Everything about the day was wonderful - choice of location (the very lovely Lapstone shopping centre), refreshments, company and of course the felt-knitting. Never done anything like this before and found it very absorbing and satisfying. An outstandingly enjoyable day. Am looking forward to doing more of Michelle's courses and will encourage my friends to take part as well."

Ian Simpson reviewed: Beginners 10 week woodworking course NO LONGER RUNNING

"Just completed the 10 week Monday night beginners course. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Ciaran was great; helpful guidance and very encouraging. The small group worked well and very happy with the table produced and the new knowledge and skills acquired. It has motivated me to sharpen all those old tools, clear out the shed and create some bench space for some more projects ! Can definitely recommend and will be going back to do the intermediate course later in the year. Ian"

Elaine Joy reviewed: An Introduction to Stained Glass - 2 day Weekend Workshop

"Fantastic! Brilliant! Fi is very knowledgeable and puts you at ease from the moment you meet her. The two days are all about being hands on and I have come away thoroughly inspired by the craft and its endless possibilities. I had undertaken a stained glass course before using copper foil techniques but this was a couple of years ago and I have never used lead and so it was like starting again but Fi quickly assessed my capabilities and following discussion we designed my project and got started. With informative help on hand when needed, I was really chuffed with my finished panel. Would thoroughly recommend this class and can't wait to return to do more!"
