Willow fox sculpture course with Joe Gregory at Creative with Nature in Todmorden West Yorkshire
Description
I’m pleased to share with you my first 2 day willow sculpture workshop. I first trialed this fox sculpture a number years ago as a one day workshop but I wasn’t happy with the results. The workshop felt rushed and there wasn’t time for students to work things out on their own without lots of tweaking from me. As anyone who has been on a workshop with me will tell you weaving is a slow process, mediative and calming, over one day this was not calming! It takes me a day to make one of these beauties and it’s a really enjoyable experience, foxes have such a great shape for weaving with willow. So I’ve bitten the bullet and decided to run a 2 day sculpture workshop. I run plenty of 2 day basket workshops, never a sculpture, until now that is: ) This beautiful, iconic British woodland fox sculpture will teach you everything you need to know to make many more sculptures if you so wish and over 2 days you’ll learn lots of sculpture techniques, create something that is truly yours and something to be proud of. Using the finest English Willows you will learn sculpture techniques that I have been fine tuning for over a decade. These fine foxes look fabulous in the garden and treated with wood preservative will last many years. Learn to weave. Suitable for beginners and those with some weaving experience a lovely way to spend a couple of days. Come alone and meet other crafty folk or come with a friend or two for a special time together. The Willows tea and coffee house on the ground floor of the building will keep you topped up during the day with the finest rainforest alliance coffees and teas, locally made cakes and simple savouries of you desire.

Maker
Hi my name is Joe Gregory, I'm a willow basket maker and sculptor based in West Yorkshire. I started weaving as a hobby in 2004 and by 2008, I realised I could make a living doing a craft that I loved. Starting from my kitchen table to now owning a 5 storey Georgian building in the centre of Todmorden; weaving with Willow has provided me with the most rewarding career whilst enabling me to keep my family safe and healthy. I teach sculpture and basket making for everyone from beginners to more advanced weavers. I have also been lucky enough to teach internationally, as well as up and down the country. I've worked on some amazing projects over the years and feel very lucky to have found this beautiful craft. I am comfortable teaching children; beginners and more advanced weavers. Each class rewards me in different ways. I have been fortunate to teach those with different needs; from sight problems, to people returning from a stroke, to those with their own special needs. I am always happy to craft my class to suit everyone I teach.
